Tony DD, I'll bet yours was a Garmin..
Mine is and it's as useful as the stars on some routes, and that bloody woman who tells you to "Continue off-road" is totally useless.
I'll stick with Colloin's, TVM.
------------- Some days you are the dog,
some days you are the tree.
Not had a problem with mine, I use my phone and google nav most of the time.
I usually go on and check the route it gives me, including the end point, which can be off if just using postcodes in rural areas, cos they stretch for miles :)
We have a Garmin and we trust ours when solo. When we are towing I plan the route first using Garmin's Basecamp program on the computer and then transfer the route (once I am happy with it) to the sat nav. We have maps with us but never have the need to use them as the sat nav is following the route I want and not what it might want.

Some people are just all show. I don't mind that if the show is worth watching, but .....
ordinary satnavs route for a car, I have recently bought a Tom Tom and downloaded a European caravan and camper map, it is very good you input your vehicles size weight length speed etc
I went down the tom tom + map route (no pun intended)as it was cheaper than a stand alone tom tom camper unit or a snooper or a garmin.
It works really well
i used to have to trust it for work as only ever got the postcode but got lost more times than i care to remember i got my maps and always research where poss and always seem to follow my nose to the right place so sat nav stays at home
i think planning my journey the night before is part of the holiday buzz/routine
I used my sat nav to go to watermouth cove last year from northampton & it took me right to the site the way the site recomends so cannot blamr sat navs all the time, some times its wot you put in ?
Never just rely on a sat nav, check your route in advance to make sure. If you want to avoid small side roads choosing the quickest route often discounts the smaller roads, but not always. They are a great invention but not a replacement for common sense and planning the good old fashioned way with maps.
Sat Nav's are great most of the time. When I look for campsites to take my caravan to I look at the sat nav map to see which way it will take me. I then look at Google street view for any minor roads particularly near to the campsite. If there are any poor roads I look for a different route or a different campsite. If I am taking the car only to a place I don't know I will still check the route before setting off and I always have a map in the car.
Fred.
the answer is no always sends you the wrong way tried to send me through Rotherham from Doncaster to Sheffield when the easiest way was via M18 M1 why go through towns ,
when I was in Cornwall I switched it off and that was four years ago never used it since malc
Glad it's not just me, then! OH tried to replace me and my maps with a Garmin cheapo. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. However the route map function is quite useful. And it's sometimes handy to switch the map on if you're lost.....
My wife bought me a RAC satnav from a well known computer store (P*W**LD) the salesman told it was ok for using it for towing caravans, could not even download updates from RAC website, load of rubbish, l even had to reset the thing every so often when on a long journey. Like l said when the bloody thing directed us down a track in Wales it sprouted wings when l launched it from the car.
We have a TomTom which is ok, but l still use ordinance survey maps and check google earth when planning a route.
Once bitten twice shy

As others have in a word NO !!! Not after it tried to take us on a cycle path with caravan in tow had to unhitched caravan to get turned round, but great in cities and towns
Our Garmin then our TT has got us int a situation three times in total whilst towing. The wife navigating has got us into a situation once. I vote for Wife Nav over Sat Nav, though don't tell her I said so.
