my van is fitted with a small bracket which you attach the first slat to, its a bit like a screw with a plastic cover. You pull out the slats and secure the first on over the bracket which tensions it and stops it from moving.

Temporary repair, looks like a trip to B&Q.
buy some new wood strips of the correct size size, (they will cut them to size for you) and lay them next to the pull out ones in your van, this should stop the bed collapsing.
when you get home you can then staple the new slats to the original tape

This is a good suggestion. I'm a heavy boy and used to suffer with back ache right where the pull out slats sit so I got some batten and cut them to fit in the gap across the van where the pull out slats go & we used to fit them between the slats to give more support. We've done this with all our caravans and found it worked perfectly & from then on I slept like a log.

Our neighbours have just started caravanning this year & I told them about it because he's a big old boy too, they tried it and now carry a set of battens to place beside the slats. Give it a try, they won't cost much & certainly don't weigh much.
