I presume the caravan was second hand when you bought it, if so did they give you 15 months warranty if they did you will have paid £444 somewhere in the price of the caravan as this warranty is through an insurance company called auto protect (mbi)ltd. If the warranty same as mine this is what is covered on the fridge, door seal, condenser, gas control valve, gas igniter,12 and 240vselector switches 12 and 240 heater elements.gas thermostat,240 v temperature control switch. If it is an insurance warranty you don't have to go through Glossop you can get direct to them, and before glossops can do any warranty work they got to get in touch with the insurance company first. So I am guessing this has happen already, in other words the £444 that's in the price of the caravan make it really looking good for 15 months peace of mind warranty, but in reality reading through the policy its a mine field another lesson to be learnt

Right on all counts, the get out for the warranty is the list of items that are covered on the fridge and no mention is made of the data cable that according to Glossop's service department is a known fault ,the warranty people tell me they only cover the items that Glossop tell them when the warranty documents are printed ,the leaving out of the data cable is very convenient as this is the only fridge part that if failed means a new fridge.

The insurance company is playing a blinder here no such thing as what Glossop tells them as the warranty booklet is mass produced.Even another well known caravan company in lancashire uses the same insurance that I know of, but how many more that we don't with the same clauses. To be honest glossops is loosing out here as they would be paid for selling the fridge and to install.I think 15 months warranty does look good on a secondhand caravan but its far from what it really means that's for sure. What is the point of cover on bits of the fridge, cooker, boiler, gas fire etc only its money for old rope for the insurance company and end of the day bad name for glossops.

Warranty or not the goods should be fit for purpose and continue to work for a reasonable length of time.

Most of these insurance based warranties have more clauses than a Father Christmas seminar.

I'd speak to citizens advice or trading standards re sale of goods act. Most dealers (cars anyway) have a goodwill policy for these issues. If you've bought something and it doesn't work and they didn't declare it then I think you have recourse?

A raised voice discussion the showroom on a busy Saturday might also do the trick?

No , paid by cash so that avenue is not open

If you paid a deposit by card you should have the same rights as someone buying on HP.

I totally agree with your comments ,this has been going on since April with the warranty people blaming the dealer and vice versa , I have now contacted the Financial Services Ombudsman who are looking in to the matter but I am not holding my breath.

Try these:

http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/advice/problemswithgoods-sum19.cfm

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1979/54

http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/

You'll be a long time waiting for the FSO to respond, they are still knee deep in PPi and mis sold endownment policy claims.

Your better off finding some legislation which shows them liable, printing it off and sticking it under the nose of the MD.

I did have thoughts of doing something to the MD that involved possible imprisonment but these thoughts soon passed in favour of a more restrained approach.

It is possible you could reject the caravan as not fit for purpose as at the moment it cannot be used to its full extent. Sale of Goods Act covers you for 6 years even on second hand goods.
Basically they don't have a leg to stand on and have to complete the repair within a reasonable time at their expense as the fridge is an integral part of the caravan. Don't let them fob you off.
Can I suggest that when contacting them, put it in writing and if you can send it by registered mail for a signature all the better as it creates a paper trail. Ask for all communication to be in writing.   If after receiving the letter, they still reject the repair, at that point you can make an official complaint to TS.
BTW it is known that Glossop read this forum so be careful what you say.

Thanks for that ,I may well take this course of action as the Ombudsman service are dealing with the warranty people not the supplying dealer.
