It's horses for courses, must admit I'm a charcoal head as well. For me nothing compares with A well cooked and smoked joint of meat over coal. However friends swear by the Cadac for versatility. I can't argue with that but they can't beat the flavous produced by a kettle BBQ.
There is no correct answer to this it depends what you want to achieve and how much time and effort you want to put in.
Cadac:Hugely popular loads on sites all those people can't be wrong. But if you look at the pro cadac posts you get a lot that say the following Cadac best thing we ever bought we use it fried breakfast, stir fries and curries. If this what you want to cook that is great and if you want to do this plus sausages and burgers I would certainly consider one. Quick and easy!
Charcoal: With out any doubt in my mind you get the best flavour from properly cooked food on a charcoal barbeque preferably a kettle version. But To do it properly it takes about 40 minutes to get the charcoal going if you are doing something big then you need to keep feeding it with fuel. I've done slow cooked pork on a weber kettle and it is fantastic however it did take me about 8 hours of work. As I said time and effort.
Weber Q Close to charcoal taste not quite but close easy to use can't do stir frys on one though. Start cooking within a few minutes. In my opinion a great allrounder and the one I will be using this weekend because I don't want to spend hours cooking but I do want good results.
Final thought none of these are cheap it does depend how often you are use them. We spent years using £5 bbq's for doing our burgers chops and Sausages. If you can wait buy in the Autumn when you can get good discounts.
Lots of people buy Cadac... Lots of people end up selling em! I don't know why. I have never had one but there are generally loads for sale barely used so if Cadac is your choice for a gas grill, look around as there are some good used bargains.
Personally I like charcoal and it is Weber all the way. For the caravan we have the Weber Go-Anywhere, the best portable BBQ ever made. Sadly the EU banned its sale here a couple of years ago because it did not conform to guidelines in that there was no heatshield on the lid handle. They do pop up now and again on EBay. Recently one went for about £140. Not bad when they were only £50 new!
Sorry bobthedrive! it is I suppose what boff says there is no correct answer- like most things in life it's down to personal choice - I'm sure you'll love it-post again when you have used it - it would be interesting to know how you have gone on
