We are new to caravans and have just bought all be it a old van (2003) and was promised a PDI and damp test on paper but when I came to collect the van I was told they don't have damp sheets and didn't want to give me the PDI sheet. I kicked up a fuss and got given a freshly ticked PDI form, every box ticked, even the one regarding the electric heater that my van doesn't have. We even spoke about it not having a electric blower before hand.

Wasn't the best experience to be honest and don't think I would go back to this large north west company again.

Are they doing the £99 service again this year. I seem to remember they turned it upside down to £66 for a while. I think I'll wait off that, then give them a try.

No Ropers and Catterick Caravans are separate companies.

I have had experience of Ropers directly and heard non too complimentary reports on the service from Catterick Caravans not only by posters on here but by direct dealings with a neighbour who bought a brand new Elddis 2013 model van from them for 18thousand quid and is extrememly dis-satisfied.

I can't believe how we let caravan dealers get away with such poor standards of service. If your car doesn't work and you've spent 18 thousand quid on it you get it back to the dealer, give him hell and he EXPECTS to fix it quickly.

Caravan dealers seem to think they are doing you a favour by fixing your faulty van you spent 18 thousand quid on as and when they have the parts, have the authority from the manufacturer to carry out repairs or a whole host of other excuses.

If you took your Ford car back to the garage because something didn't work you'd expect the dealer to have the spare part in stock or at the very worst get it for you the next day.

With caravan dealers they find it perfectly normal to take a couple of weeks to get the spare part for you and then will at their leisure arrange to have your van in so it can be fitted.

WE PUT UP WITH THIS TERRIBLE SERVICE - so we have only ourselves to blame.

End of rant

David

These points are the main reasons we would never buy a brand new caravan much as we would like to have one, treatment of customers is shocking but mabe there are a few dealers that do care then we may reconsider

I won't use them again. Promised phone calls didn't happen.

The promised phone call syndrome is now happening to me, damp found in a back corner of my 3 year old Challenger, in fact the wallboard is soft indicating it has been damp a long time, phoned Catterick to be told they weren't taking other dealers work on ( Discover Leisure bought )but would email the manager to see if he would do it for me and ring me back. After 2 days waiting for the call I phoned again and asked why I had no call, she was still waiting for Mr. Kinsell to answer her email but would remind him and get back to me. That was 2 weeks ago today, and I'm still waiting. I've now taken the van elsewhere and they've lost a potential customer. If the owners can't be bothered to give a simple yes or no they don't deserve the custom.

There is not enough space on this thread to list all of our complaint's about Catterick Caravan's!!!!

From the outset we had to chase for information about delivery dates, they seemed completely uninterested. When delivered it arrived without the extra's we had requested. Wrap around seat, motor mover, glamour shield, scotch guarding etc etc. this was the beginning of our woe's. The van was taken back on numerous occasions to have this rectified .....on each occasion it came back damaged.....oil on the carpet, needing replacement, glamour shield applied so badly it streaked down facia's and windows, this needed removing, wardrobe drawers would not open, when we asked for this to be fixed it was obvious that the workman's tool box had been placed on the bathroom sink and a deep gouge was found. We took this in to be sorted and they returned it with a poor attempt to 'polish it out' . New sink requested and when that was taken in for replacement they sent the van back with the mirror broken.

The icing on the cake was the occasion my husband travelled down to pick up the van after yet another repair and on inspecting the interior deep scratches were found on the fridge door and a fuse was lying on the floor. When he investigated he found a fuse had been replaced, questioning the service department resulted in someone admitting there was a fault with the toilet and when the electricity was connected it flushed continuously ...THEY WERE QUITE PREPARED TO LET US DRIVE OFF WITH THIS FAULT!!

In total, our brand new caravan has had a new sink, mirror, kitchen facia, kitchen splash back, cooker top, fridge door and carpet. All damaged during repairs.

In fairness they have apologised for ordeal and offered a free service, and yes you guessed it, the van was returned with more damage!!!

The quality assurance, standard of workmanship from this company is non existent. After sales service a joke.

Hi folks.
As a caravanning newbie who's just bought a new Swift from Grantham Caravans I have to say that I've found a huge difference in the attitudes of dealers.

I haven't needed to have any work done at Grantham (the van's only a week old), but the handover took over two hours as Tim the salesman took the time to connect the 'van to water and mains to show that every light, appliance and feature worked as it should, and to explain in detail how everything operated. I'd brought a battery and gas, and he insisted on fitting them for me before I left. On top of this I got a cracking deal and a complementary stay at a nearby campsite. Tim also gave me his mobile number in case I had any problems over the coming weeks or months.

I contrast this with other dealers whose staff would rather stand around chatting to each other than help, who wouldn't offer any discount or a miserly one, whose only selling points were that they were nearer to where I live and if I didn't buy from them I shouldn't even think of asking them for servicing or warranty work.

My experience suggests there's lots of restrictive practices going on, perhaps in collusion with the manufacturers, that should be illegal.
