Wow for some reason the thread didn't refresh great to have so many replies and so many things to look into now.

We aren't looking for new or modern per se, more "well built" and would rather have something we can modify to suit us and we wouldn't want to do that to a new van.

Jasie, sorry to hear you were in the same position I have to admit it has rather shocked us.

I have to admit we saw a 5 berth geist for sale that "looked" nice as well.

We've got a 2007 Bailey Pageant Bretagne. Single axle, fixed bunk at the bottom with a dining area on one side that can be turned into 2 more beds (or just 1 if need be).

Layouts can be found here as someone mentioned earlier:

We are looking for something similar, we love the Avondale Dart 630, a very light van for a twin axle but want something a bit newer.

We have a swift charisma 565 which has triple bunks with extra side bed if you need it and double for the front. Very nice trim level - luxury tbh. We love it and it works well for us and our three young boys. Approx £11-12K for 2009/10 model. Highly recommended. Oh and is single axle - we tow with a Freelander 2.

So glad everyone is ok.

If you want a very good family 5 berth van with a bunk over the rear double & a lovely bathroom setup with a seperate walk in shower cubicle go and have a look at the Bailey Pageant Provence. Either the Series 5,6 or 7. The series 5 & 6 both have an L shape front lounge & the Series 7 has a double dinette layout, all have the same bunk setup & the same side bathroom with the lovely shower. We've had the Series 5 & a Series 7 & they're all lovely vans.

We hired a van to continue our holiday as the accident was literally when we had set off, and please don't slate me for saying this as I remember looking at some lovely Baileys. But I have to say the Bailey Series 7 2009 Bordeaux was not the "build" we had seen previously, don't get me wrong we hired it not to be the perfect van but to enable us to enjoy what was left of the holiday.

While it was a nice enough van, the build quality felt very "cheap" flimsy shelving, trims not quite fitting, the wardrobe door was warped as it only has a lock in the middle, the list goes on.

I am very glad we hired it as I just had no idea what we were looking for and of course if gave us a few days away rather than dwelling.

All the insurance paperwork is now in, so fingers crossed. Unfortunately both my husband and I have injury's that have "surfaced" but they are minor in comparison to other accidents out there, they just don't feel it at the mo.

Love the Swift layout that looks perfect and very like our "old" van the Sterling is it the same co, I am sure I can go look that up

Slightly off topic but we also keep admiring the Roma's

this is a very dangerous thread............  well it is for my hubby's wallet!!

why is it, when your more than happy with your van, something comes along and 'tickles' your fancy!!

what are peoples opinions on the lowest triple bunk for kids to sleep? looks a bit  'enclosed' for me, but do the kids object?

Do please let me know if anyone hunting comes across a 4, 5 or 6 berth van with fixed bunks AND a big shower compartment separate from the loo and sink - I NEEEEED one and can't find it in anything other than twin axle or so new I can't afford it.

It's great for younger kids, we only really used ours when a friend joined the kids but it was very popular as a den as they crawl in there and play. Having said that my older niece who is very tall slept in it and was very comfortable.

We have the adria 6 berth with triple fixed bunks and it's great! The bunks are huge! 2 yo, is on the bottom, 12 yo, in the middle and 11yo on the top. They love their bunks. Yes the headroom isn't huge but my kids are more than happy. It's great not having to make the beds up for them every night. No only that, but if they are misbehaving they can be sent to their bunk and they are out of the way, especially if you draw the curtain ;0) haha! Ours also has the nice big shower room. Same one as sunshinetours. Love it!

We have the Bailey Olympus 540-5. We find it us perfect for us, 2 adults, 2 children. Although it is a 5 berth as dinette makes into single bed I could imagine it being small for 5. The bunks are great head room wise as there are only 2 fixed bunks. We compared it to 3 tier bunks where I would say bottom bunk is very limited indeed. Wash room is best I have seen in a single axel van. Build quality I think is good. No problems with ours, I would highly recommend.

We've just bought today (eek!) an Ace Jubliee Courier 6 berth. Fixed bunks but no separate shower cubicle.

Don't get me wrong I like the Baileys I just think there was possibly a year when they got the build quality not quite.

We went caravan window shopping this weekend, and haven't seen all of them by any stretch at all but we have fallen for one- a Sprite, but want to keep looking about as we haven't seen others with the same layout. We loved the Bessecar's as well but can't get the right layout.

We have a Lunar Lexon 640 twin axle twin dinettes each end, with full size single beds with bunks above ( rear of van). Spacious bathroom with separate shower, cassette toilet. Concertina door to separate children at night. We love it as no-one has to go past anyone to use the toilet at night. Loads of space for all your equipment etc. We love the space for us and our 16 yr old daughter, who likes her own space, and often joined by our 23 yr old son.
We can make up rear dinette as double bed and leave it up as fixed bed if away on our own- very rare occurrence!
Good luck with your search.

Lunar 525!
Great van with lots of living space. You can leave the bed up in the end or have it as a seating area. We have removed the bunk making ours into a 4 berth ( there's only four of us). I do feel that bunks are no good for growing children. It's a great space even with our two growing teenagers. Have to say it's the best van we have had, nice to tow as well.
