Depends we tend to use THS ((temporary holiday sites C&CC)for main holidays and cs for long w/e. We do still do the occasional rally but getting older tend to prefer the quite life now

Are we talking 'Caravan Club' rallies, or 'Camping & Caravanning Club' rallies?

I have experience of the latter - and, frankly, they can be a bit dismal. The very worst ones are where you are expected to be 'doing' something, from dawn to dusk!

It doesn't matter how childish the activity might be - dressing up in ridiculous costumes, participating in endless 'races'. or chucking Wellies around - as long as there is something going on. and on, and on.......

It's like the malevolent ghost of Billy Butlin has been unleashed to torment the unlucky rally participants.

We are very seriously considering joining the Caravan Club this year - are their rallies a bit more 'grown up'?, and can you avoid these sort of activities without being made to feel like lepers?

<<<It's like the malevolent ghost of Billy Butlin has been unleashed to torment the unlucky rally participants.>>>

A quick look through the pages of the Club Magazine Rally Pages and you will see that Billy Butlin is alive and well and residing in a caravan on a rally field.

The thing is that Butlins and other Holiday Camps have changed with the times but the CC and C&CC have not.

If we go on any more rallies it will be to a specialised one where the camping part is secondary to what the rally is all about.

As a complete contrast to the above post my now-ex and I were staying at a site in North Wales a few years ago where the rally field had been taken over by a Caravan Club rally, and the members at that one did absolutely nothing. No beer tent, nothing going on anywhere, they just all sat outside their caravans knitting or reading the morning papers and their books, and looked down their noses at us when we walked past with the dogs. I'd always had the impression that at rallies there would be something going on which you could join in if you wanted to but not with this lot, it was like walking round a graveyard.

Our local Caravan Club Centre have a great list of rallies and the majority have activities and "socials" with a several "sit back and relax" ones too (this year they have 74 rallies). I don't like dressing up or playing games but they're not all like that - some have walks organised which is good for me because my husband and daughter don't like walking. Some have trips to local breweries - something for my husband. This is why we want to join - our C&CC meets don't have anything much going on now and after 3 years of visiting the same fields we've run out of sightseeing etc in the same places. Our ideal is to not have to drive too far because OH comes straight from a days work, pitch up and have enough company and something going on so that we can mingle and have a chat.

I love the idea of rallies but somehow have never quite managed to get on one yet! This thread has prompted me to wonder if I can get us organised to join one before the end of the season - we are members of both clubs so one of then should have something tempting going on within an hour or so's drive in the next couple of months...

Certificated Location, a small private site registered with the Caravan Club. A CS is a Certificated Site, the same sort of thing but registered with the Camping & Caravanning Club.

Hi we are members of the CCC and Plus Retired Caravaner's Club.
We have used CL AND CS Sites in the past and liked them, good value, ( cheap ).
Some c c c rallies have had drunken loud idiots at them, but 99% of the ths we went to were full of real friendly guys, no agro lol.
The PLUS Club rallies we have been on are well run and org meal out .
Great bunch of of guys and girls lol, 5 nite 7 nite and 2 week at £5 or £7 per unit per nite, bargain, and most are fallow on rallies so you use less petrol.
No children with plus, so we use CCC for the grandchildren or cs cl
