The mere fact that you are alive to tell the tale rather enforces the recommendation to the worth of the ATC!
I am only alive because of the strength of the Volvo I was driving when I was involved in a very bad snake that wrote off my caravan.
I will be fitting an ATC soon.
I certainly would want it again if we returned to caravanning but were going over to a Motorhome at the end of June
Its like saying do i need ABS braking on my car or do i need stability control on my car ????
I bet the driver of the outfit wrapped around the central barrier of the A30 on Thursday wished he had it fitted.
You might never need it BUT when you do you will discover its true value.

I bought a new car last year and it has both of these. Hope to gawd I will never need them and unless mentioned by someone else, I really never think about them, but, as you say, if you feel that they are a good idea and have the finances to buy them, then better safe than sorry.
Safety gizmos and devices that make life easier will always be criticised by some and I for one fail to understand why.
Then again, I have no doubt that car seat belts and the wearing of lifejackets were once equally ridiculed.
Hopefully, in the future, I will learn from other people's bad experiences rather than from my own.
Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply. the decision is made - safety comes first and even if the £500 isn't negotiable it's worth it. Hope we never actually need it, but the peace of mind it offers will take a lot of concern out of our travels.
