Thats a pretty distinctive marking on the front of the transit van, I'll certainly keep my eyes peeled for you as we've probably more chance of spotting the transit van than the caravan.

that's awful...i hope you get something sorted.

i can only suggest you read all the policies you have thoroughly. have you got any other holiday insurances on credit cards/bank accounts, you may find that there is cover in those.
I think you might be on to a loser with the site insurances as most arent worth the paper that they are printed on...you might be able to go the missold route with them if you fall out with them.

also you might struggle to get a caravan hire for £50 per day. I had something similar when we had a claim 2 years ago, and cheapest i could get was £75 hire per day here....we ended up just cancelling and claiming the losses.

also the caravan insurance should cover future booked hols in full if the policy says it does. With us there was no quibble on covering the losses....although i had to do this myself as it was coming from a 3rd party that crashed into us...so a little different....plus our caravan insurance claims unit was rubbish....so you need to be persistent and make sure that they do everything in line with what the policy docs state.

The following point is not as odd as might appear at first.

There is a 'section of the community' who will always burn a caravan if someone has died in it. It's a superstition, and a strong and enduring one.

The caravan and the personal possessions of the deceased all go up in flames

Any surviving relatives then need somewhere else to live.

It's a long shot, but it might be worth checking whether the local emergency services have received recent reports of a caravan fire, perhaps on site, or perhaps just in a lay-by.

Its been almost a week, don't really want it back now. Probably been lived in etc.

Main concern is our pending holiday, I am in talks with around 5 various insurance companies, 1 for the van, 1 for the contents, one for site 1 and 1 for site 2 and also our travel insurance as the 2 sites aren't playing ball.

I do like the idea of getting an old one almost complete then reselling afterwards. Trying to find a local one within our budget is difficult, plus can do anything until insurance comes back with our options, so awaiting on other people..........

First site said our policy with them wont cover us, but they could cancel the pitch and keep all the fees and allow us to rent one of their statics, how nice of them. Second site says that we are not covered but if we pushed they may buckle and refund us.

Good news with contents, they looking like they will cover and replace all lost items, which is brilliant, but we are unsure if we want to continue caravanning.

I'll update and hopefully help others in the future.

I think your best bet is to focus on getting a payout for your caravan, ie keep in close contact with your caravan insurer with a view to getting payout asap so you can buy a new caravan in time. Any caravan main dealer always seem to have large stocks of new & late model caravans & as a cash buyer I'm sure you could get something on the road in a couple of days with the essential gear thrown in. Its always a buyer's market.

If you get an old one for say a £1000 you would then have to get it serviced & probably new tyres fitted for it to be safe to tow any distance & then fridge etc, might not work.

Can the storage site owner help, there might be another van stored there that you could borrow. If you were paying for storage then you may have a claim against the owner as it does not look as if they tried to stop the thieves. Someone else with a van stored on the same place might lend you their van at a cheap rate to help out.

We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

Site is secure enough, it was well planned. Insurance is covering it by the contents.

Once I get a more of an idea on payout for the actual physical caravan I'll know better.
