The makers recommend that you wash the caravan and not polish it before you put the cover on.
If you polish it before putting the cover on what can happen is if you have a loose cover that can move about in the wind, the action of the movement polishes the caravan.
The marks are polish marks, not actual damage, unless you have a unfitted cover that can flap around a lot.
to reduce the risk, you need a made to measure cover for your van.
Protec have now included in their documentation a paper aptly named AVOID THE TIGER-PRINT. It says if your caravan/motorhome paintwork has been dulled by road film. UV rays and air pollutants or a build up of wax polish. Your cover will polish your van, but only the places it comes into contact with. They also go on to say you should clean and polish all over with a non wax polish and then only cover up your van

Hi Camcroft, no I haven't got any pictures of the marks, I polished the van prior to covering and when I removed it there were polish marks down one side and the front locker area .
Main reason I bought the cover was to give it some protection while I waited for the damp repairs. Just seem to rub salt into the wounds when I removed the cover to have the repairs carried out and faced with all the marks.
Most of it has polished out but there are still some showing when the light is at a certain angle.
My personnel opinion regarding covers is unless you have tree sap or excessive amounts of bird droppings your just as well leaving it uncovered,by the time you prepare and cover it, doesn't take much longer to wash it down. it's only dust and a few streaks.
Lots of folk swear by them... and lots swear at them.
Well I have just taken off our Protec cover which has been on the van since early November and I am glad to say that it looks just the same as when I covered it no marks as reported previously. Hoping to go away tomorrow it will be our first ever Winter trip out, We did need to remove the snow and ice first from the cover which was laborious but hopefully it will be worth it.
