Yep Mick S.
But when you consider that some car makers even class the cigarette lighter as an optional extra, despite the fact that the car comes fitted with a cigarette lighter socket for 12v stuff to plug into. so by not including the actual cigarette part that gets hot, they must be saving all of 10p or less.
But I agree, a 13pin socket embedded behind the rear bumper would be a great idea, that way you could buy the steel towbar for around £80 and either fit yourself, which usually involves just 4 pre located bolts to fasten.
Then simply plug in the electrics, total cost no more than £100 maybe £150 if you get someone to do it for you.
I drive a firms car, which gets changed every two years, sometimes I can get the towbar transferred, but when the car model changes I am stuffed, and £350 for just two years use is like you say taking the michael's.

Hi path20, of course converting a Twin Plug van to Single 13 pin, is not really as straight forward as I described, you can get an adapter to convert the Twin Plugs to Single 13 pin, but that kinda defeats the object in my mind.
And the 2 cables from a Twin Plug van, will almost certainly be to large a diameter to fit into a Single 13 pin Plug.
So to convert a Twin Plug van to Single 13 pin, would involve either a junction box, or some re-wiring, to a degree but all within the most basic of DiY skills.
Easy for me to say, never having done it myself, but there is plenty of info with the relevant wiring diagrams, and the corresponding PIN numbers etc.
