If you are winning bidder then you have purchased the caravan. Its not to go and view the caravan before paying!
Of course they can't make you pay if you change your mind when you see it but there might be a few choice words from the seller unless he has told some porkies as to condition etc...
To be honest all the viewing, Cris checks etc should really be done before bidding, unless you have already done that??
if you turn up and have purchased the van without viewing and it has been described wrong ie damp free and you find damp then you can walk away from it if it is as described then you have bought it

When I sold mine for about 8K the buyer phoned CRIS there and then and got a clear report. I had a receipt showing it was bought new for cash. We went to our local shopping centre where he withdrew the money from his bank and then carried it 50yards and paid it into mine.
Trouble with bank transfer was that it would not be confirmed as being in my account until the following day. That wasn't good enough.
I would want a good reason from the seller as to why they are selling such a new van and be convinced it was correct.
Sometimes when Have sold cars the buyer has done an immediate transfer in my house and I have checked my bank on my laptop & seen the funds present. No problem. On one occasion we went to my bank & did it. My bank confirmed my receipt over the counter.
I have noticed newish caravans being sold for ridiculous prices and they turned out to be scams. I reported one to the CC as they had one for sale on their classified.
This one could still be genuine though but it seems odd that they put it up for auction and not on Ebay's classified.
Unfortunately the lunar is worth nowhere near that! If only! Well the old saying goes, if something looks too good to be true, it probably is!! Still not a peep from the eBay seller so presume they either meant to put a reserve on or it wasn't genuine. Back to the original plan of selling/part xing the lunar and going to a dealer for a new van.
Golden rule number 1. If you are thinking of buying a caravan, car or motorhome off ebay, or any other similar website, ALWAYS go and examine it thoroughly before you even think of bidding. I did this, even though I was only intending to spend £500. I would never dream of spending even £500 on something second-hand that I had never seen in great detail, unless I was quite prepared to lose it.
Nothing wrong with bidding blind provided you do the deal at seller's premises, private or commercial, usual sensible precautions are taken & there is good communication with seller during auction. If caravan ain't as described, don't pay for it & leave, simple as that.
I would certainly never bid on anything where seller tw*ts on like, "you bid to buy, non paying bidders pursued, etc blah". Any listing that suggests any sort of aggression towards buyers in listings shoots itself in the foot imho. Customer is king, be nice to them.
I personally wouldn't bid on anything over £50 second-hand that I hadn't seen close up, especially something that has potential for big problems, such as a caravan, but perhaps that's just me.
As many ebay sellers say, "you are bidding to buy, not to come and look. If you want to take a look, you are welcome to do it before bidding". I accept that, and would always look before bidding.
I wouldnt normally buy a van of that value on ebay but the deal got the better of me! I fully expected it to go for a lot more so was surprised to win but was fully prepared to complete the deal if it was as described, I certainly wasn't "bidding to look". It's all irrelevant now as we are back to square 1 - fixing delamination to sell the lunar and then find a new van.
Well here is my story saw a Lunar Lexon EB ON EBAY!!! about 10 miles away from I live 2001 model good condition damp free just not been loved. Has caravan mover all appliances work furniture great condition I low balled him as I got the impression he needed the money £2000 later my van!!!!! Tell me where you can get a END BED AT THAT SPEC for £2000 lol Nothing wrong with Ebay just do your homework
Absolutely right lexie71. Nothing wrong with ebay at all, that how I got mine. However, all I am saying is that I would never bid for something secondhand off there for more than I was prepared to lose, unless I had taken a good look at it first. Bidding blind, especially on something like a caravan, is certainly not for me. Too much of a risk, as it could be like an old sponge.
