Yes I hear what you're saying but the fact is a lot of old analogue aerials,including my own either don't work or work poorly. The link I gave is simply a cheep way of solving the problem.

Thank you so much folks for all your replies regards the freeview/ ariel post I made. I think we are going to trial run it first & see what that gets. I'm not expecting anything brilliant but will give everything that's been posted as suggestions, a try. Luckily, we aren't huge Tv addicts so its a back up for the occasional night.
I remember the days of us trying to get a bent coat hanger poked into the ariel slot on the portable tv in an old caravan ( early 80's) it worked most of time too ;-)
