I agree in part Vangoman but there are some reasons that cannot be used, as set out in the Equality Act 2010.
Discriminating against the owner of a particular make of German caravan if there are already physically similar caravans that are not of German manufacturer on your site, might be a little risky.
Someone always seems willing to play the equality card. FWR.
I still think you would need a better reason to refuse access to a site to the driver of a car towing a particular make of caravan than you just don't like the caravan, if it's largely the same as all the others on the site and does not have a specific attribute mentioned in your t and cs such as the door on the RH side.
Your would not be discriminating against the caravan but against the driver because of the caravan.
No difference to discrimination against a driver wearing a turban.
I was the project manager for an industrial furnace manufacturer that installed a galvanising bath at the hobby factory in rendsberg Germany. As such I got a good tour of the Hobby factory and saw the manufacturing process. I agree hobby, fendt, hymer, knaus caravans are excellent and do regret buying a bailey on quality grounds. However you need a serious car to tow one of the German vans as they are heavy. I have never seen a sign or website stating that hobby vans are excluded although I have seen bans on sign written vehicles.
I can see however why having the door on the right hand side may cause problems on some of the places I have been. They are laid out awning van awning van awning van. Gravel hard standing. Unless you push the van in backwards it won't work. That said I have seen plenty of hobbys in seasonal pitches.
Hobby make all sizes down to a small 2 berth, check their website, they have a large range, weights are no more than equivalent size/spec UK built caravans.
I think this idea that German built 'vans are heavy came about because it's mostly large ones seen in the UK. All makes have extensive ranges of all sizes/specs.
Don't know about that, my bailey ranger 550/6 has a mplm of 1280kg. I saw a shorter 5 berth hymer nova that was 1700kg mplm. My 4x4 would be towing 100% with that.
My other question is, when we take our uk spec vans to France do we get any trouble because our doors are on the left hand side?

A few weeks back we were looking at buying another van. We looked at a Hobby 650 mostly out of curiosity I suppose. It was only plated at 2000kg so the can would have pulled it easily. However it looked mighty close to 7m long and not having a tape measure with us decided we didn't want to risk buying something we couldn't legally tow in this country. It did look lovely inside though.
contrary to my previous statement that i had never seen a camp site that excluded German caravans....i was looking at the web site of 'Channel View' touring site in Brean somerset. they state that 'unfortunately we have no facilities for Continental caravans' and if unsure consult them before booking.
also they reserve the right to refuse access to single sex parties. they also state that during school holidays they have a minimum of 6 nights booking. i always fancied staying at this site but not for 6 nights!
One of the sites i went to a few years back stopped letting german vans onto their site. Not because of the name of them it was because that, when they were parked up during the night parts went missing on them like light clusters.
Jeff this is the answer I gave you last time (29032013) you hijacked a thread where some one asked a question about "German Vans"
Why is that yet again a post is made regarding Continental vans and almost straight away the traveler issue rears its ugly head.
The same common sense approach should be made regarding the van ie Cris, damp, history etc irrespective of who is selling the van!!
I have owned a "door on the wrong side German van" for a number of years and have never had any issues with sites taking our van, in fact the amount of people who pass positive comment on the van, its layout fittings ect
As the kids have flown the nest I will be downsizing the van to another "door on wrong side German van" would,nt touch a UK model again!!
PS also own a white "Transit" type van guess you can pigeon hole me on that one as well
