We only bought our van at the end of last season and always used tent / trailer tents up till then and never had a problem before even when we had forgotten anything.always used private sites in the past.
When we joined the CC we didn't know you couldn't book pitches,
Not everyone can get to the site just after midday or if going with friends ... Arrive at the same time.
The wardens at Chatsworth are rude and you would think they owned Chatsworth house with their attitude.
We visited the site in coniston water and the staff there are very nice and helpfull.
I know it was my own fault for forgetting the extention lead but the way the staff where phoning asking if I had forgot to pay !! They had even been to the van before phoning !!
Anyway this was just my personal encounter with the CC and there won't be another I'll put my £40 towards a private site.the cost of sites in the CC are no cheaper than any other and facilities for kids is very poor.

No experience of CC. as member off C&CC. But I would guess that like our club, go back to Chatsworth in a year or two and the Wardens will probably be different. I have come across one or two jobs worths in C&CC Holiday site managers, but they seem few and far between, and havn't had one for several years. On getting pitches together, depending on Holiday Site Manager and how busy they are, they will try to help but cannot guarantee it, if someone else arrives first and particularly wants that pitch, they say they are obliged to let them have it. Having said that on each occasion we had the family next to us so no real problem.
As for lost equipment, I don't think they keep a supply of spare stuff. Having said that, when my waste pipe disappeared on a windy night at Cardigan Bay, the HSM soon found me another piece, and that was the narrower type used on a folding camper!

Have to agree, most site owners and wardens we have met have been very helpful. On a site in Mawgan Porth I found the pump in the toilet tank had split and went to the site shop and asked the owners wife if they sold any adhesive I could patch it up with, she disappeared into the back office and came out with her husband Araldite on a tray he uses and told me to use as much as I wanted.
Not much to talk about really but we returned to the site for another ten years and are still good friends now and they do not own the site(the new owners were terrible so we moved on and have found a site just as good)By the way the Araldite is still holding after 9 years.

We have been members of the CC for many years. Yes you do meet the odd bolshy warden but it doesn't put us off the CC,
There are some lovely CC sites and always we have found them to be good.
As for not getting the pitch you like then just move the next day. A bit of a hassle yes but worth it if you are stopping more than a couple of days.
I don't like the C&CC as often they choose the pitch for you.Saying that we are members of the C&CC as well and love some of their sites, especially Keswick.
