I wondered how someone owning an Alde heating free caravan could comment on this particular thread with such authority - unless of course they have previously owned a caravan with said heating.

Perhaps it was conjecture or assumption.

nobody saying what KW they leave the Aldi on 1-2or 3 would have thought 2 with 13 amp hook up at home ?

Why, if you only need it at 5C I suspect 1 kW is going to be adequate enough? Mine is only ever put at that in storage, if used at all.
However, it will only basically shorten the time power is pulled, not the energy you pay for, other than if things get so desperately cold outside 1 kW of heating is inadequate to hold 5C.

Hi
My currant van as this system, and for the last 3 winters I leave it on 1kw setting at 6 deg.
You can have it higher still on 1 kw but I find this is ok.
Never had a problem at all, and it always keeps van from being cold and damp.

I see this subject has re-surfaced after 4 years!

Just for the record, my van is now 8 years old and every autumn I watch the weather forecasts and as soon as the night temperatures drop below 5/6 degrees, I put the Alde heating on at 6 degrees and at the 1kw setting.

I have never drained the water system, the only thing I do is ensure the fridge is switched off and the fridge and freezer doors are on the 'open' catch to save any mould forming. When spring arrives, I again watch the weather forecasts and as soon as the night temperatures rise above 5/6 degrees, the hook-up cable is removed.

I would finally add that the caravan has remained free from any fire damage, as has the house which sits about 6' away from the caravan!!

In conclusion, from my experience I would deduce that the Alde heating is perfectly safe to be left on for prolonged periods of time with no adverse results!
