My storage site was rated Cassoa Gold, but the owner hasn't renewed membership due to the cost.

All the security that earned it the rating is still there, fences, razor wire, CCTV, 24 hr staffing, dogs, lighting etc.

My insurer asked for details of security and has left the premium unchanged.

When we took out our insurance last year we got a quote for storage at a Gold CASSOA site, when we found out you could only keep it on the drive for two days for loading and unloading I asked what the premium increase would be to add the house onto the policy and there was no increase.

For one reason and another we never took up the option of the storage and the van has been on the drive. Just renewed the insurance and taken off the Gold storage and just left the home/drive on - premium came down! Go figure!

Yes, I have to admit that the premium on the insurance was no different whether she stayed on the cassoa gold or i left her at home.

The only reason i am moving to summer storage is because it is absolutely hell getting even my little freedom in and out the back. We thought it would be easier than it is, although practice may make it better.

The rules are quite rigid at our storage place too. He shuts up the gates/barriers at sundown every day so if you aren't in, you are locked out - a bit like an old guesthouse in the 60's!

We will see how the summer storage goes. If it turns out to be more awkward than is necessary, we will go back to home storage - where we are thinking of storing her over Winter anyway so we can do anything we need to her in the winter months. We also have our names down for another gold cassoa close to us who seem to be a bit more flexible - so we will see what happens this year x

We have ended up investing some of the money it would of cost us to put ours in storage on extra security at home - CCTV/Barrier.
Perhaps you could look at ways of making it easier to get your van on/off your property with the money that you would save.
It's also great to go an have a cuppa in the van when the sun is shining even if you only have to walk 10m from your house! Used ours as a guest bedroom as well!
