Sorry LlaniDavis and diesel steve, but I still believe over £700-00 for an 8 miles round trip is way over the top whoever is paying the bill. Not many people earn that in a week.
But it isn't just an 8 mile tow is it?
Distance from yard to "incident"
Distance from "incident" to home.
Distance from home back to yard.
Plus
Drivers time from yard to yard
Plus
The time taken to right the rolled caravan and get it onto the recovery vehicle
Plus
The time taken to ensure that nothing has been left behind and that all debris are collected and the road is safe.
Plus
Covering the cost of the expertise of the operator and the cost of the equipment, including wages, insurance, etc, and the wages of the office staff who arrange the rostering of the recovery vehicles and their staff.
You obviously have taken none of those into account.
Quite right LlaniDavis, it was not an 8 miles tow, it was 4 miles travel to incident and then 4 miles tow back to base. Hence £20 per day storage charge.
