We bought our new van from there, and stayed overnight in their site just in front of the storage yard. thing is we never see anyone let alone security from when they closed until opening time. But there was a chap waiting to get his van from storage. he had to wait until someone came and opened the gates.

How could this level of destruction/pillage go on at a CASSOA Gold storage site ? I think a big investigation is required.

Easy Bob, why a big investigation?
CASSOA Gold Storage does not mean 100% impregnable otherwise the banks would use them.

It's a bit of a con where caravan insurance is concerned as they usually give a discount on your policy if your caravan is kept on a CaSSOA storage site. However, depending on the size of the storage compound there could be hundreds of keys handed out to all that pay to keep their caravan or motorhome stored on there which to me isn't really that secure at all. This has proved to be the case with the OP and the scale of theft or damage is probably bigger than we know as we only hear ever comments on this issue with folk who use this forum which is a minority of caravanners in general.

Very true Tango55, if they want it nothing will stop them, hence the reason I refuse to buy a car or a caravan I cannot replace myself. I do have insurance for the van as it is in storage but only because the Cassoa storage I use is the nearest and cheapest even with insurance added in the County, the fact it is Gold does not mean I trust it. I found need another pair of hands to count the ways I could get in the place and rob vans, might not be able to get one out but could do what has been done to the OP if so minded.
What is to say in the OP,s case it wasn't another vanner or friend of?

If I had a driveway the van would be at home.

I didn't know that caravan insurance reductions were only granted on CaSSOA Gold award sites but the security is based on the same principal as my previous post in the fact that there are numerous key holders that have access to the site.
Make your own assumption on this one but it totally baffles me. An old caravanning friend of mine kept his caravan in a lock up garage outside his house that was not only out of sight but apart from that he had a vertical locking post immediately behind the garage door, a wheel clamp in place, a hitch lock, an activated alarm but most of all, he was the only key holder. He contacted several insurance companies and yet none of them would offer any discount. In my view this is the greatest deterrent you can ever have and if that was me I would have complained to the insurance ombudsman for a constructive reason for the refusals of a discount when the touring caravan is actually more secure than ANY storage compound in the UK.

Tango, I will be honest if I had storage at home I would have that sort of protection and no insurance. I don't buy a van I cannot afford to replace out my pocket, I do not trust the Insurance Companies to pay out, they will find any cause not to.

For £400 to £500 a year at some these sites. Computer locking gates 24 hour CCTV and this still happened ! Questions should be asked.

If so much was stolen I would hope that the police would be looking for the thieves and checking Ebay and such for any suspicious items for sale.

We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

Quote received & approved by insurance company, just waiting for a date repairs/replacements will be supplied & fitted - hopefully will be back to full working order soon as itching to take the van out for the first trip of the year now that the days are getting longer.

Lowhdhams were 'Hit' on the Friday night and the used car dealer half a mile up the road was 'hit' on the Saturday night - parts were stripped off cars - thought to be the same gang. The police have reviewed eBay etc though it's unlikely that the items stolen will be sold locally or from the same seller so difficult to prove/link back to the incidents.

The storage site is reviewing all of their security measures currently in place as this is the first incident in 13 years. I could list a number of vulnerabilities/weaknesses but not wise to highlight these on a public forum and hopefully they will be addressed.

The security guard will not be back and Has been interviewed, though we'll never hear the outcome.

The way I have come to accept what has happened is to see caravan storage favilities, whatever CASSOA rating they have achieved as glorified car parks. If your car is damaged whilst parking in the multi story car park, you claim on your car insurance - same with a caravan.

back to the van tomorrow with a new fully charged battery & to check to see if the spare wheel is still there - forgot to check last week!

My mate was a fitter there for years, and i know the area well.
Bit isolated in that area and nothing on that side till you get to fullers.
I wonder if the police have checked the varible speed cameras. If they where driving surley it would have registed as they went through the area.
And while they stoped to do the nicking of parts, would register them again after.
So that motor would have a time lapse?
Then again to much work for them to do that.

A mate of mine was on M1 between junc 25 & 26 and got pushed into the central barrier on his Harley. Loads of cameras as major works was being carried out.

They never bothered then, so won't for a few caravan parts.

And he lost his leg!!
