Milenco do 2 types of steady locks. One fits over the winding nut, the other fits in the tube (where fitted) to the winder.
I don't see either of these being removed with pliers though.
You dont need to remove them.
? that - in both cases mine cover the winding nut, and the fronts require an adapter to turn the winder...
As with most security devices, they are never perfect, and a bunch of thieves can very easily get past most devices.
As someone said, the best security would be to remove a wheel, but that isn't an option unless you have some sort of jack to support the weight or have the chassis/legs upgraded. Another option is to store the caravan in a purpose built storage site, safety in numbers is always a good thing, especially when your van is parked next to two very expensive ones.
Thats it, park where there are much better vans and where their sewcurity is not as good as yours.
More likely to pass onto the next one.
What you need to think is how would you remove the clamp or lock if you lost the keys?
Or in my case arrived at the caravan storage without the keys and removal tool. I removed a lock with a pair of long nosed pliers. OK it took a while but not as long as driving home and back again and it was removed silently.

The point is that none of us believes these devices are going to stop a theft in the end. But, multiple devices consume a thief's time to figure out how to remove and get the things off. This increases the risk of disturbance, which is about all you can hope for..

Check out the Nemesis Ultra wheel lock. They are probably the next best thing to the AL-CO. -
Hi Avon Eagle.
I have looked at these and am trying to work out how the receiver bolt works, does it replace a standard wheel bolt?
I am changed my insurance company and so need to upgrade my security and am interested in this one.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

Yes it does replace a standard wheel bolt. Much easier to fit than an Alko lock, but not as secure imho
Check with your insurance re discounts many provide with certain wheel-locks.
I find it odd that insurance companies require wheel locks to be fitted whilst you are actively camping ... can't imagine a thief nicking a van from a campsite when fully set up with awning/blind; ehu; water; etc etc ... too much hassle ...
We store in a very secure indoor site where the owner will not allow wheel locks to be fitted in case he needs to move units around, or evacuate in an emergency. Theoretically this may invalidate a claim you might make via your own insurance, despite the set-up being far more burglar proof than having a wheel lock fitted to your van sitting outside your house, or in a field behind a fence.
The problem is some campsites are fairly open and with plenty of people coming and going it wouldnt take a thief long to pull your awning down and tow the van away.
A good reason to get chatty with everyone?
If you setup and just come and go in the car people may not think anything if your van is suddenly packed up into a different car and towed away.
One reason i disliked certain sites that stuck your name on tags attached to teh van or showing in the window.
So your names... and your booked until date...
So the day before you go out on your travels and a tow truck arrives to collect Mrs X's van because his cars broken down and they are leaving early.
