You can buy a delam kit from ebay which will repair 1sq m, for about £25 . This kit is only suitable for doing the repair from inside the caravan, not undernerath. You can watch repairs on youtube, if you leave the carpets in the van all the time, then cutting and sticking down the vinyl after the repair will be much cheaper.
So, £25 for the kit and £100 labour for a Mobile person to do it, will sav you £400.

Why spend money and time buying a kit when the dealer should be doing the repair under SOGA?

Josie, you can buy the Delam Kit from your Caravan Dealer, it will be a bit more than Ebay, but it will be exactly the same Kit that they will use for the repair.
Following Ian's advice and persuing the legal route would be ideal, but depending on your dealer , they could be awkward and it could take months. You should definately seek legal advice first though.
You will find instances on here where people have had similar issues with repairs and the dealer passes them around departments and doesnt return calls, and they give up.
Please keep let everyone know what progress you are making.
John

Good heavens, if ever an industry needs to sort its life out its the British Caravan industry.

It is the 21st century for god sake, it just cannot be that hard to produce a watertight box!...............Can it. 😡😡😡

Good luck

Just checked my email history and discovered that the recent delam was in Feb 2015, and my dealer wanted £300 to do the job, even though they had serviced it from new. (2011). I read an article in a Caravan mag about Lunar Delam, the journalist had the same problem, he persisted and had the job done under warranty. I emailed him and he put me in touch with a person at Lunar, who said the job was a warrant job.I went back to the dealer, who still insisted I pay, until i mentioned Simon, the Lunar man. They said they would see what they could do, next day had a call from dealer who said they would do it under warranty.
So even with a fully serviced van, things are not straight forward.
Also, friend of mine, whoes Lunar had small delam , discovered at his service, was told it would cost him and he paid.!! His van was 3 yrs old.
For many people , when the dealer says something is not covered under warranty , they accept it.

IMHO the only way to wake up the industry is to use Sale of Goods Act or Consumer Rights Act 2015 to its best advantage. Both are very much on the consumer's side.
We recently rejected a caravan and the rejection has been accepted and a refund is being processed however it took a lot of persistence by myself.

Good for you Ian. Persistence and firmness is what is needed, and do not accept anything short of your demands.

Good luck.

To reject your claim on the basis that the caravan was not serviced at a particular time is rubbish.

Ask the dealer what exact servicing of the floor do they carry out during the service that was missed.

Unfortunately a lot of people seem to just cave in and pay. Unless we all stand up and scream at the industry nothing will change.

I think all people want is a working caravan they can use. Most will not want the caravan off the road while they make endless phonecalls etc to people who are trying to fob them off. While some will find it a small victory when they win while others would just prefer to pay up & go caravanning. They really cannot be arsed with all the aggro. If a delam kit is a few quid & owner is able to diy then many would prefer to do that.

So personal choice. One should do what one prefers & not criticise the decisions of others.

I missed the first service after buying our xplore caravan, and it had repairs under warranty
Had to pay a percentage of the labour costs (about 2 days work) as the kitchen had to come out to replace the wallboard.

It was an expensive repair but they did honour a percentage of the costs...

Bought the van from Discover who went bust a short time after and the claim was taken up by another dealer, so I would lean on the dealer and Luner a bit more.

I cannot think of another industry that can consistently turn out shoddy goods, and be able to shrug off complaints and poor reviews with such ease and impunity.

If your new car leaked, the seats collapsed or the electrics didnt work after six months, you wouldnt stand for the dealer telling you 'nuffin to do with me mister....best get onto Mercedes or Ford' or whoever.

Pound for pound, caravans must be the most expensive but habitually shoddy consumer goods you can lay your hands on.

IF someone could make a van and GUARANTEE there would be no body leakage or delam for 10 years, or they pick up the bill come what may, they would clean up. As i am sure the huge sales would more than compensate for additional repair work pro rata they would cop for.

Some caravan manufacturers offer a 10 year water ingress, but you read the small print this only applies to permanently seal joints.
In essence the joins around windows, doors and lockers are not covered after the first year and these are the areas where you normally get water ingress.

No manufacturer can gaurantee that their products won't go faulty in a given time. They can however guarantee to repair any faults that occur in that given time & they could also guarantee any faults would be repaired within a given short time frame.

The UK caravan industry is a victim of it's own success. Too many people want to go caravanning. I would guess it suffers from a skills shortage in both factory & dealer workshops & also in management who fail to address the needs of customers.

As pointed out, most people just want to go caravanning they do not want to enter in to protracted disputes so probably they do not complain enough. I expect though that customer complaints are just seen as colateral damage by manufacturers whose customers keep coming back to buy their product.

I may have missed the name of the dealer was who would not do the warranty work, I have looked but could not find it.

Who were these dealers, name and shame them please, I do not want to buy from them. I had been considering Lunar, may be we will have second thoughts!
