Thanks all for the input - all academic anyway.
Went to see it and met the fella outside of the storage place - knew things weren't going to go well when he opened up with "before we go in and see it I just have to tell you..."
Never seen it before - the wood frame was rotten as a pear, the panel screws had pulled out of the rotten timbers and the front and side Ali panels had split apart - you could gently pull the panels apart from the outside and wiggle you fingers inside the van through the gap, almost bottom to top all the way up. Almost wet myself when the fella said "oh thats nothing, a dab of silicone will sort that out for you!"
Nice one Rodney!
Wow! Best off out of that one, hope you didn't have to go to too much trouble to see it. Good luck finding another, at least it's a good time of year for it.
------------- Best Regards,
Colin

Cheers Colin - its a bloody minefield at the minute I can tell you - went to see another last night - got to the address and the fella I spoke at the door didn't know anything about any caravan - said they didn't even own one!! ????
As my 6 year old and I were leaving a little "puzzled" - 5 burly Irish Gentlemen pulled up outside the house in a van towing another completely overpriced wreck!
Shall we say things got a little "heated" when I pointed out the whole back end was rotten through and that I wasn't interested. I'm sorry to say if I hadn't have had my daughter with me I'm sure things would have worked out very differently!
Harrowing experience!
Yikes! Not good. A tip when calling is just to say you're calling about "the caravan" If they say something like "which one"? then you know they're selling more than one and may be some kind of "dealer" at which point I'd be inclined to pass.
Have you tried contacting any reputable local dealers and asking if they have any "trade sales"? That's how we got our current van. They are often not on display (ours wasn't) but tucked away round the back somewhere and they have been taken as trade-ins. They usually come and go quite quickly though if they are in decent condition like ours was. Despite being a 1992 model, ours was obviously someone's pride and joy, until they decided to trade-up. It had literally just come in, so we got to see it "warts and all", not that we could really find any! Even had motor-movers on it, and they work.
