I am wondering how essential it is to drain the toilet top tank. I put laundry liquid in the water and I wonder if this prevents freezing. (I could try putting some of the mixture in my freezer at home but wondered what others think).
I will be going home tomorrow and will not be away again for two or three weeks so need to stop any damage. The water system will be cleared with the Floe drain kit.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
Hi John.
We use Formil from Lidl in our flush tank and I noticed when we drained it today that the water looks very dense/ thick, I was also wondering if I needed to drain it.

We'll find out on Friday when we go away. I've left a small heater on in the shower room so hopefully that will be enough.

We had some really cold weather at home with very low temperatures. It was all fine in the caravan. I filled up The water system at home to check it and everything was fine. The toilet flush is working perfectly. It is very cold here at Moffat but warm inside our caravan.

I would like to give some additional advice. Last year was really cold and although I drained the system we came unstuck the first weekend away in the new year. The flow jet pump is mounted under the seat at the front of the van in an upright position . The water sits in the pump and the diaphragm at the bottom of the pump held on by two Philips screws had blown off from freezing. I now remove the pump and leave it upside down in the washing up bowl until we are ready to use the van.
As for the draining I am an engineer and have a lathe. I have made an adaptor to work similar to another system that blows water out using air. Works well and never cost much.
