I don't want to put a damper on your hope of getting a conviction but unless the cctv shows them actually taking anything and leaving with it then it will probably be useless. In the unlikely event they bother to investigate and find matey he can say he heard a crash, came in, looked around but no body about so left before he got the blame, coincidence person breaking in was wearing the same clothes.
Friends farm got turned over. Cctv showed all the faces, loading stuff in the van for three hours and driving off.Registration clearly visable. They traced the van, which was still full of their stuff. Plod turned round and said nothing they could do. They couldn't prove stuff in the van was theirs(even though it obviously was),the cctv didn't show the van leaving the scene all the way to the public road (could have dumped their stuff as a joke and picked the vans contents up elsewhere) and they shouldn't have gone onto the van owners property and accused them.
i have some good footage.. it shows the guy arriving by climbing over my six foot six garden fence smashing a shed window.. smashing the kitchen window and climbing in and a few minutes later leaving by the same way together with the gear he had stolen..
its about as good as it gets if it dosnt result in a conviction the system is really broken..
i have also just ordered enough polycarbonate sheet to replace all the glass in my bottom story windows..
some more bolts on the doors plus more alarms and cameras should make it very difficult to break into my house..
i think i will continue to keep my van at home.. its just too convenient not to..

ps.. the reason i hope for a conviction is two fold.. one is getting the git locked up will stop him committing more crimes for while.. two it will send a message that my house is the wrong house to rob..

I have a son who lives at home... hoping that helps!!
It might do because when he has a rave party while you are away the police will be called and no burglar in his right mind will go anywhere near the place
well my back garden side now has 6mm polycarbonate (lexan) windows.. said to be 240 times stronger than glass..
whilst not totally disagreeing with the concept of "if someone wants to break in they will do) getting into my house will be pretty difficult for them..
chuck a brick at this stuff and it bounces back and with a bit of luck knocks the f-ckers teeth out..
i did buy enough to do the front but havnt got round to doing that yet..
One of my neighbours always parks his car on my drive when I'm away. He doesn't have a drive, so uses mine, which does me a favour as it looks like there is always someone coming and going at my house, even if the caravan and my car aren't there. :)
my downstairs windows are now made of this stuff..
will it work.. he he
interestingly my local glass and window people didnt what to know about plastic windows.. in the end i had to buy the sheet and do it myself.. there are two sorts acrylic (17 times stronger than glass) and polycarbonate 240 times stronger than glass..
i think it would be possible to destroy the wooden window frame with a large hammer but it wont be easy..
i have left the upstairs windows alone on the principle that most burglars done carry ladders..

In a house I used to live in the scum didn't want to smash the back window (I guess they thought it would alert people) so they physically removed the double glazed glass unit from the UPVC frame.
They had plenty of time to do it as the window was in our back yard with high walls all around so no passer-by's would see.
