I really wish I could get a shower from one aquaroll but I always have to send my husband to do a refill half way through. I have really long, thick hair that needs a lot of rinsing to get the shampoo out and then it needs conditioner to stop it being a tangled mess which also takes a lot of rinsing so basically, I need two aquarolls worth of water if we don’t have a serviced pitch. I really wish that sites had more serviced pitches.
i also have long hair - waist length, when in the caravan i dont have a problem rinsing it as i get it lathered and then squeeze as much of the suds out as i can with my hands, quick wet and again squeeze it out, i keep doing that usually takes about 6 times, and then i use spray in conditioner that i can leave in so saves on the rinsing/ amount of water i use and both of us can manage out of one barrel doing that

When taking a shower in the van, we switch the shower on and off so as not to waste water while we are lathering up, but every time we switch the shower back on, we get a split second of scalding hot water before it returns to the temperature that we’ve set. We now just turn the shower away from our body for that split second and then continue as normal but it is a nuisance as occasionally my husband forgets and there is a bit of a yelp from the washroom!
We also have this problem. Considered fitting some kind of thermostatic cut out but not sure if that would cure it.

We used to have the problem with the water being scalding for a second after switching the shower off then back on again, but eventually found a post on another forum which enabled us to fix the problem. It may not apply to all with this difficulty, but our 2014 production caravan was fitted with a Whale ic pump controller system. After contacting Whale to talk about the issue, they sent a new ic controller unit (FOC) which fully resolved the issue. I suspect that there might have been a problem with the electronics in the ic controllers at that time and for anyone experiencing this difficulty with caravans of a similar age this could be worth investigating.

We have eco camel head waste of money not as good as the shower head that came with van and it does not save any water.

I agree. We have had them as standard in our last three caravans and exchanged the Eco shower head for the proper shower head. IMHO it does not save water as you have to shower twice as long to wet yourself and then wash the soap off.

We make sure one of our aquarolls is full before having a shower! Wife gets cross when it stops mid rinse!
Fitness task is refilling, emptying wastemaster and loo!
I always fill up before going to bed .... much better than tramping across a site first thing in the morning

Thank for this, but our van doesn't have whale water kit. However gives food for thought. Needs further investigation.

No matter how much cold water you may have, the back half of your shower cannot possibly be anywhere near approaching 'warm'using 2 aquarolls. The mrs has a lot of hair, but luckily theres enough hot in the boiler to get it washed and rinsed. Its always cold straight after though. So i have to wait maybe 15-20 mins to get back up to steam for my own shower.

I can second the use of a leave in hair serum for detangling and conditioning hair without having to wash it out. Just dont use too much at first keeping adding small amounts till you find out how much suits your hair.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
Hi all, we have never used the shower in our vans but we are going to a site in July that isn't opening the shower block.
Firstly we changed the van last August and have only used it twice so still getting used to it and the alde system.
So I had a go at running the shower today to make sure it works, but continuous running it ran of hot water after about 4 minutes, this is probably plenty of time to shower but Mrs might struggle when washing her hair. I have read about the navy system so will use that.
Not being totally knowledgeable of the Alde system I was looking for advice.
The instructions say it's more efficient to run on gas, so does this mean that it uses less fuel or does it mean that on gas it heats quicker?
Also the controller has the facility to put a 30 minute extra heat facility, do you use this, and if so how?
Thanks in advance
Hi Cliffbrown, can't answer your question about gas/electricity, but we always use the half hour "boost" on the Alde hot water when showering. Even switching it on 10 minutes before and leaving it on during showering seems to make a difference, I suppose more of the water used comes from the cold supply. We've also changed our shower head to a Reich Charisma Lever, ( https://www.leisureoutlet.com/taps-and-shower-fittings/water-and-waste/caravans-and-motorhomes/9019-reich-charisma-shower-head?gclid=CjwKCAjw_-D3BRBIEiwAjVMy7HscGX_NtqU3gHi5KXg_WDEXmjVffLUIUgEHzMZNUAPEFTaSi_hNvBoC160QAvD_BwE )which is easy to switch on & off & enables us both to shower using less than one full aquaroll of water, even when O.H. is washing her hair.
With our Alde system we run it on gas and electric when we are using the shower and put the boost on the water for about 20 mins before showering. I only use lukewarm water and it stays lukewarm for 2 aquarolls. However, if I put it on hot, the hot water would be done before the first aquaroll was empty.
