I hate ignorant drivers, accidents and claiming! 😞 I had my car 12 days but luckily fitted with a dash cam. Stopped at traffic lights, middle of 3 lane roundabout, pulled off slowly and the driver to the left drove into my front wheel arch. Claimed she was in the middle lane 🙄 Even with ,obvious’ dash cam footage she is Contesting it! A) I don’t think it was her car, b) mine had a minor scuff as my wheel was angled out, she had a big dent in the door from where she bounced off it. This was last month. No further forward I am afraid. Luckily my car you can’t really tell. Good luck . People are a holes! BTW that weekend I had to tow my Pennine fc to Norfolk for the first time!! I did it though x

UPDATE:
Insurance company have just informed us that the van is a write off due too the cost of repairs. However I discussed the possibility of buying it back, to which they offered it to us at an amazing price and pay us the difference in value. Will have to consider their offer but understand there are re insuring problems with said route Hmmmmm.

So you're happy that your Insurance company, that you have probably been paying to for x amount of years without claiming have fixed your caravan and admitted it wasn't even your fault, and then your premiums go up ?

So guess who is paying for the repairs :)
Insurance is a risk business, so they tell us. That's why different postcodes have higher premiums due to car thefts, burglaries etc.
There is no way I would accept a rise in Premiums if I was not to blame for damage to my vehicle, I'd be looking for new insurers.

Insurance has now become a money making machine not even based on risk, or previous history with the company you pay insurance to.

My last car insurance came through with an increase of nearly £200, phoned them up and suddenly it was £50 cheaper than I had paid the previous year. Work that one out :)

I know little about caravan insurance but (in my tyre incident described previously), initially I was told that they’d write the car off. I thought this was a bit odd, as I did know quite a bit about cars, and asked for a copy of their report on the damage and cost of repairs and got an independent assessment done – to cut this short, insurance co. were taking the easy option!

I don’t know how knowledgeable you are on caravans, but if you’ve not been sent full details and costs, I’d get them – you’ll need this if you’re sourcing a rebuild anyway. I’m sorry, but I have little faith in insurance companies!

I don't have much faith in insurance companies either Ficklejade. I've just renewed my car insurance. I did my usual practice of checking out 3 different comparison sites just before my renewal quote came in then waited for the quote. The renewal quote was over £60 more than the previous year and a fair bit more than the best quote I got elsewhere, so I rang my insurers, told them of the quotes I'd had elsewhere, and they immediately knocked £50 off. It's just a try-on! If the'y quoted me what I eventually paid first of all, I would have just renewed straight away. I do this every year, so if one year it doesn't work I will simply change insurers as I have done many times in the past.

As for insurers putting up my premium after a no blame accident, I'd switch immediately.

Insurance companies are just businesses they aren't a charitable organisations. They are there to make the most profit for their shareholders the same as any business, no different to all the energy suppliers, fuel stations ,supermarkets etc.
If you don't like their terms you just move elsewhere.
Even if you switch the fact that there has been a claim will, with the vast majority of insurers, result in a higher premium being offered.

Just for clarity, surely "it" is not covered by your car insurance, what is covered is just third party claims associated with it, whilst being towed by that car?

Unusual in my experience, but you will know your specific terms.
Readers should certainly not take their car insurance covers anything else about the caravan, other than 3rd party claims.

Here is LV=s, which is very clear,

When I had a car stolen some years back, my insurer wanted to charge quite a bit more for the replacement. So I switched, not hiding anything, and got insurance elsewhere quite a bit cheaper than I'd paid before. Some insurers just want the business, so if it wasn't your fault and you don't try to hide anything, they may give you a good deal. Always worth a try.

You would have probably got an even better offer if you didn't have a claim recorded in your history.

If you have an accident while towing. Your car insurance regards car & caravan together as a single vehicle in regard to third party claims & will pay any third party claims for damage caused by that car & caravan even if it is damage caused by caravan becoming detached.

Your comprehensive car insurance will also pay for repairs or pay out for write off for your car. What it will not do is pay for repairs or write off for your caravan. For that you need caravan insurance.

Possibly, but as I was paying less than I paid the year before, even though I'd done my usual comparisons then too, I wasn't really that bothered. In fact I was delighted.

I've just tried beating one of our commercial vehicle quotes - it was like pulling teeth. We've been with the present insurer maybe 20 years, so thought i'd see what else was out there. What was/is 'out there', is droney automatons reading from a script asking endless questions. When the lass started asking me the same tranche of questions for the second time, to avoid an argument, given she reckoned she hadn't already asked them once, i cut her off.
Instead, i contacted our present insurer and asked them to look at the quote again. They said they'd 'sort summat out for me'.
