Insurance company have just informed us that the van is a write off due too the cost of repairs. However I discussed the possibility of buying it back, to which they offered it to us at an amazing price and pay us the difference in value. you dont actually need to have your caravan insured, its covered by your car insurance when on the road.

Just for clarity, surely "it" is not covered by your car insurance, what is covered is just third party claims associated with it, whilst being towed by that car?

Insurance companies are just businesses they aren't a charitable organisations. They are there to make the most profit for their shareholders the same as any business, no different to all the energy suppliers, fuel stations ,supermarkets etc.
If you don't like their terms you just move elsewhere.

True, which is why I always do comparisons every year..

Even if you switch the fact that there has been a claim will, with the vast majority of insurers, result in a higher premium being offered.
