When I bought my Burstner I bought it from a dealer not far from the ferryport so that if I had any problems I could be sure I wouldn't have any difficulties,as it happened a loca Burstner motorhome dealer was quite happy to carry out services and warranty work if required (there never was any).

So if you import a van into UK from Europe you can take it to any UK dealer for warranty work. Will this still apply after Brexit.
From our experience buying in 2002 & 2008. With Hymer that was their position, however, just like with UK brands a non supplying dealer did not have to accept it and do the work, that choice is down to them, Hymer only allowed them to do so.
Independants are happy enough to take our money for servicing. Much of the equipement used is standard stuff anyway, eg "Al-KO", Alde etc so getting kit is easy enough.
Hymer are very timely at supplying bits.
Many thanks for all the valuable information, much appreciated!
Since my post, we have decided to go with our first choice, an Eriba Triton 430, a van that meets our needs.
We will try to find one in the UK within our budget before looking on the mainland. The initial reason for looking in Europe was not, and is not, the price. It is availability, not only of Hobby but also Eriba.

So how have you saved as you need to pay to go to France to use it?
Probably because he paid the German price and delivery charges for it and also saved the ferry cost taking it to the continent?
But that means it can only be used on the continent, surely. Under present circumstances, that could be a problem and you would have nothing to use here.

There's nothing stopping him from using it in the UK provided it doesn't exceed UK regs on size.

But the question was, how have you saved money if it stays in France. To use it here, you have to pay for the ferry cost anyway.
The cost saving for me,when I bought mine was the initial purchase,it was much cheaper than a similar spec one bought in the the pound was much stronger than the euro.
I paid app 16000 Euros which was just over £11000 in 2005 the same one in the UK was app £15000.
The cost saving isn't anywhere near as much nowadays as the pound is so much
weaker but I suspect it would still be more than the ferry cost.

For me I got exactly the caravan I wanted. Brand new for £12k. If you do a factory order you can start with basic caravan & add the options you want. I added the pack travel which is shock absorbers. Alko hitch. Outside hatch to under bed storage. Spare wheel. To that I added leisure battery & door fly screen.. I did not want oven, water heater, shower, alloy wheels so I did not have to pay for those items. Caravan has fixed transverse double bed across front. Seating & table in middle & toilet & kitchen at back. Perfect for us & hopefully the last caravan we will ever have to buy.
As for warranty we are over there every year & Decuyper is only 50miles from Calais. However we have been out in caravan since we collected in July with no issues whatsoever & build quality is impressive.
Mind you I'm surprised at you buying new, I thought you liked old vans.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I did Blue. I just worked out age & finances & figured out if I got exactly the new caravan I wanted then it would last me the rest of my caravanning life which might be 20yrs if I am very lucky so I will never have to faff about buying another van again.
I like the look of Decuyper, as I reckon at some point I would like a Fendt van.

Which model did you get billy, I have been to Marquis at Preston and quite liked the Caravelair vans, but not a U.K. spec models so buying from Decuyper has sparked my interest, as I would plan to only use the van in France and store there.
The Caravelair Antares 400 with it’s fixed bed seems to be ticking all my box’s at the moment partly due to the 1000kg tow weight.
