Will do
Just looking at the width of my current van and the hobby, it's 12 inches wider. If the specs I've looked up are right. That's a big difference. Don't know if I'd feel comfortable towing it.

Whats the length of the Hobby, check that its not over 7mt or you'll need a vehicle over 3.5 t to tow it legally

The single wheel hobby vans I think are 2.3 m wide. Which makes it a bit better.

Why do you get comments about Hobbys saying you can not insure them or many sites sites don't allow them, it's always I read somewhere or my mates next door neighbour knows somebody that's got one and Can't insure it,I had a Hobby for 10 years only refused once by a site, both clubs insure them along with many more companys, my Hobby was 2.5 Mrs which is approximately 9 inches wiďer than the normal 2.3 vans, there are several 2.5mtr Brutish vans on the market now.

This Hobby may not have a connection for an Aquaroll. Couple fo sites refuse to allow Hobby caravans onto the site. Insurance can be difficult but not impossible however premium may be higher. Trade in prices are generally poor as no one wants a Hobby caravan.

Thanks for replies. The point about connecting aquaroll are why I’m asking questions about the hobby. So I know more about the differences. Just spoke to a caravan salesman he said the narrower hobby vans are the 540 and under. I like the 560. So this would be the wide van.
Has anyone with experience of towing this width van any advice.

The shipping length of our caravan is over 8m and it is 2.5m wide and no issues. MTPLM is 2000kg.

Thanks iank01, the hobby I’m looking at is virtually the same size you have. It would be 245mm wider than my van. I’m not an experienced caravan tower, and it’s the extra width down narrow lanes that worry me. Is yours a twin wheeler.

My Hobbyy was 2010 575 VIP,it had a onboard water tank, i got a battery operated water pump that i pumped the water from the aquaroll into the tank, i always checked the access road on google earth, but i do that now with my present van, as for towing a wider van i never had any problems and i had the van for 10 years.

Google earth will be my new friend. I will have to make a few calls tomorrow, storage and insurance. Were there downsides with your hobby compared to british vans.

Ours is a twin axle. I use a TomTom Go Camper for navigation. I input the dimensions of the combination and it avoids unsuitable roads.

Thanks for all replies and help. Just spoke to caravan storage, they said they won’t take any hobby caravans inside or out. Which has probably ended plans for a hobby van. Which means a new search.

Sorry to hear that, I and other members did try to forewarn you that there can be issues with the make re sites and insurance, purely because of the make (and the risks associated with it)! The member who dismissed our comments out of hand was really not being as helpful as he could have been, and in a way by confirming that HE had had insurance declined, rather endorsed our opinions instead of countering them with contrary evidence.

I'm sure you are disappointed, we all would be if our dream had just been shattered, but look on the brighter side, you are unlikely to be declined by storage or camping sites and insurers with a different brand. Pretty grim scenario if once you've acquired van, you're trying to book sites for holidays, only to find some won't accept your van on make alone, so maybe a lucky escape in a way.

Good luck in your ongoing search.

Hence the question, I have to admit the thought of towing a van 10 inches wider than me own through country lanes filled me with dread. But the van I had me eye was a beaut.

If your post was about my post you should read it again, I did not say I was refused insurance,I had no problem getting insurance, I said in 10 years I was only refused on one site,
we do about 90 nights at several different sites every year so in 10 years 1 refusal is not a problem.
