Ours is 100 watt freestanding and connects to the battery a suitable size twin core cable. There is a short length permanently attached to the battery and the two lengths connect via a waterproof plug.
It keeps the battery fully topped up while running the lights, water pump, radio etc and even allows the use of TV for a few hours a day.
Heating, cooking, hot water is taken care of using gas.

i recently made my van off grid capable.. a list of what i did..

two 150 watt flexible solar panels on the roof cost about £250 quid..

two 100 ah lithium batteries.. cost about £950..

one DC to DC 20 amp charger cost about £120 quid..

one 1000 watt inverter cost about £125 quid..

the DC to DC charger puts 20 amps into the vans batteries from the cars alternator..

the 1000 watt inverter gives me mains voltage

the 200 ah of lithium batteries are enough (within reason) to power it all..

trog

ps.. i use gas for cooking and heating..

That’s a great system trog100, I have not got into the world of solar as yet, but I am learning a lot for when the time comes, LiFeP04 batteries are the way to go that’s for sure.

I have been using a Xiaomi MiUi 300 watt mini kettle, fantastic bit of kit for around £18, I run it off my car battery via a cheap tiny Aldi 300 watt inverter, the inverter is almost a perfect match with the kettle drawing 28.60 amps, the inverter spec says that it is good for 28 amp, I could really do with getting a 400 watt inverter, as I know the kettle can pull 30 amps, having used it on my Mercury 600 watt Pure Sine Wave inverter battery box.

Using cold water it gets 300ml (max) to a rolling boil in just five minutes, which is much faster than the Waeco 180 watt 12v kettle that I used to use, which would take over 30 minutes to get 500ml to boil.
