Have a walk round to double check everything before you set off.
I forgot to lock one of my locker doors and it came open so I travelled 80 miles with the door 2 inches from the ground and never got a flash from other motorists on the motorway

As well as checking out the route and the aerial view on google maps I always look on the street view to check out the approach and any landmarks that indicate the entrance
We are thinking of going on the same route so to speak. We are in our late seventies and after owning Pathfinder campers for the past 20 odd years, are now thinking of getting a fixed bed caravan. After doing a bit of research we have decided on a British built van as they look plush and have an ambiance about them that others do not have, We will wait until the end of the year before taking the plunge, hopefully prices will have come down by then. Our present tow car is a Ford Kuga that is a joy to tow with. and should be easily up to the task of towing our chosen van.
I got 2 small 500/600ml bottles, I added 100ml to each and mark the bottle, kept on until bottles were full, I use them to put my blue & pink toilet chemicals in, so no need to take big bottles and its already measured out👍

This is EXACTLY what we have done, just a little earlier. Can't wait to pick up our caravan at the weekend......will probably stay in it overnight on our drive to try and work out how everything works!!!!

Second the above. Do not rely on SatNav but check out the route on a proper map, and if possible on Google maps, to make sure it is suitable for towing and/or that you would be comfortable towing along that route.
Great advice to check the route on Google Maps. The only fly in that particular ointment is when, on the lovely wide and easy route you have checked out, you suddenly come to a Road Closed sign and are diverted down what appears to be a cart track. Happened to me last year heading for Cardigan C&CC site.

One that hasn't been mentioned yet and despite it being fairly obvious we managed to do it once at a cost.
Don't forget your bedding. We could only find shops nearby that sold rather expensive bedding. 😳
Canned beers, screw top wine & canned food with ring pulls etc. are readilly available so if you forget these openers you'll get by until morning, but I like bedding on my bed 🛏.

Blimey! And here's me thinking you were perfect!
If you're going to caravanning, you need to learn to pack the caravan properly.
The fact the caravan had beds, and that you were planning on staying overnight, should have given you a clue.
