so colin all that needs to be answered now is, are the tyres on your caravan car tyres or 8 ply commercial ones?

Without going to the caravan I can't be 100% certain, but I am reasonably certain that they are commercial tyres. Not certain that I actually need them on such a light van, but I usually err on the cautious side. What I can be certain of though is Elddis recommended tyre pressures as I have the handbook in front of me on my screen. It says quite clearly 36psi.

hi thanks for all your input,s van in garage at the moment so cant give tyre size but colin is about right 33 to 36 psi,tat s what i was told by a van dealer .

A van-dealer is not a tyre-specialist.
Me neither , only call myself " pigheaded Dutch selfdeclared tyrepressure-specialist"

But once you can check the tyres , also check the sise and loadindex/ speedcode. And see if your MPVW) is that 954kg .

I now got message, and you reacted too, so I think the forum- manager fixed the message by mail. But can also be, that I did not receve messages of new post, because I left this page open , so stayed logged in.

yes it will say that as they quote using car tyres, when you really need 8 ply and on the age of your van there is no way of knowing from the handbook what the previous owners have put on the caravan since new, so ll you could be doing is running around on under inflated 8 plys for all you know

No, he/she doesn't need to!
I gave the correct pressures in my post.

Oh I thought I gave the right pressures.

it is possible to over-think a subject..

unlike a race car caravan tyres dont really need to have maximum grip.. they do nothing but follow the tow car.. cornering forces and even braking forces dont really apply or at least not in the same way as they do for a car.. also the real life speeds are less..

i just follow a simple principle.. i dont blow mine up any harder than i have to.. and yes my van does rattle to pieces and i try and keep this to a minimum..

the bottom line is.. there is no exactly correct caravan tyre pressures and it will vary to suit condition..

i always feel the temperature of my tyres during long distance high speed runs and will stick to my principle of not blowing them up any harder then i have to..

this is just my thinking and until i get hard and fast evidence to prove me wrong i am gonna stick to it.. i also run tyre slime in my tyres to prevent on the move punctures..
