The other think to consider is that the use of a full awning more than doubles the size of the living accommodation.
We have a small two berth caravan and use a full awning.
As the OP has not yet bought a caravan it may allow the purchase of a smaller lighter caravan.

We have an Isabella Magnum porch awning which is actually quite big, certainly big enough for the two of us to use for daily living in summer.

We only put it up in the summer and when we are staying on a site for 5 nights or more. We find it too cold to get much use out of other than in the summer (or in an unusually warm spell in spring) but it is great for warmer weather as it provides shade for my extremely fair and pale skinned husband to keep out of the sun while still being in the fresh air and we can cook under it and store walking boots and raincoats if the weather is rainy. In a spell of really nice weather we usually just put up the main roof section but don’t zip in the front or side panels so it works like a sun canopy but we have the option of zipping the sides in to give a bit more shelter or the sides and front to fully enclose it if the weather changes.

Your situation sounds very similar to us Pixie. I am very fair-skinned and like to sit in the shade, although I love to see the sun and get fresh air. We do the same with our awning as you do.

We had a lovely Trio porch awning for our previous caravan, but it won't fit the one we have now without coming half way across a window. We were so impressed with the Trio awnings that we bought a Trio full awning, as shown in my profile and that is great. We often remove the sides and/or front to just provide some shade.

We have a porch air awning, Vango Belleto 300. Extra room, like a wet room, muckie stuff off before entering the caravan. Very hot days gives shade. The grandaughter loves sitting in the awning for her breakfast, so does grandad (me). Friends round, sitting in the awning is homely, just remember the noise.

We have a small Kampa 200 which gets very limited use. Definitely wouldnt put it up for less than 10 days or so. However either we're in France / Spain or else here in Ireland. One is too hot to want to sit in the awning unless all the sides are up (so its effectively a rollout), the other is too cold and damp to want to sit outside much. It might get limited use in the evenings in warmer climes, but thats about it. Plus theres the extra weight.
Our conclusion is that a rollout is best, but even then I'm not sure I could be bothered rolling it back in every evening in case theres high overnight wind.
By accident we found the best thing to do is face the van North in the sun and South in the cold, one for a cool interior to escape too in the heat, the other for maximum warmth in the cold.

Have a roll out sun canopy for France, and a porch awning for the UK.

Would not put the porch awning up for anything less than a week.

Exactly the same as us. But theres barely half an hour in putting a porch up. Use it every trip, short or long. Its invaluable for shoes, a spare coolbox, and keeping damp off chairs at night.

We are Folding camping campers, but bought our caravan 2 years ago so we could extend our season. We always use the full awning on the camper, unless away for less than 3 nights when we use an air awning, we enjoy the space in the awning, for sitting in the evenings or when it’s raining. I cannot sit in the sun, so use the awning for shade too. The awning on the camper takes us 15 minutes to put up and twenty mins or so to put everything in it. During lockdown we thought it might be a good idea to put up the awning on the caravan, to see how we managed. It took us less than ten minutes to erect, before pegging out. Much easier than the camper. We also have a porch awning which we have decided will be a ‘doddle!’ We would miss the space of the awning.

I've bought a Dometic Rally Pro to go with my Lunar Zenith.   I was very much set on an inflatable one, but after watching a YouTube video on putting it up, it looks very easy. , I decided that it wasn't worth the extra cost of the infatable version.   Should be plenty big enough for a fat man and a Rottweiler. In absence of a caravan, I have been fondling the material and am very impressed with the quality. .     Bought a a lot of toys in the past wee which I'm looking forward to playing with.   Just hope the caravan is still in one piece this time tomorrow!

The Dometic is actually a Kampa awning rebranded and th poled one are quite good. I think you made a wise choice. When you collect the caravan will you be staying near to the dealer to test out the caravan first before going home. There are a number of nice caravan parks around Brean.

BTW maybe consider investing in a Satnav and takes into account that you are towing a caravan. We have the TomTom Go caravan and we have the choice of selecting whether we are towing or not. The satnav then avoids all unsuitable roads.

Looks good! As an alternative if you like that area, we stayed at Stonebridge Farm Caravan Park just outside Weston Super Mare a few years back and it was great. Very reasonable prices, lovely owners, and metered electricity, which I much prefer if we can find it. Electricity cost us £2.80 for the whole two week period we were there. Not £2.80 a night, but £2.80 for two weeks!!

Unfortunately Stonebridge is closed until April. I'm planning to pick up the caravan early March and go straight to a campsite to play caravan!   Watersmeet is open all year.   Not really that fussed where I go, as long as it's nice quiet site with EHU and near enough to the dealer so I can go and annoy them if there are any problems.

I'll have a fiddle with the onboard sat nav and see if it has a "caravan mode".   TBH I don't use sat nav a huge amount.   As an anal retentive, I like to plot various routes on Google learn the route to where I am going, but of course sat nav it useful when I get nearby.

I'm like you and plan my routes my self, then program the Sat Nav with MY route not necessarily the Sat Nav's choice! Lot's of times I know better ways, not necessarily the quickest/shortest route, but the best to drive, that becomes more of an essential requirement when towing the caravan, as the ordinary Sat/Nav AND route planners can and will choose too narrow roads, too tight corners, fords (caravan floors are FULL of holes for vents etc. - not good to drag them through water!) and too steep hills (even ones where caravans are banned!)!

To the best of my knowledge Google Maps does not have a vehicle choice (caravan) option. I use TomTom MyDrive which allows you to select and even customise vehicle type, it doesn't require any log in/account or that you have a TomTom Sat Nav unit, it's not perfect, but never yet tried to punt me (and my caravan) down an impossible route, which is more than can be said for some other supposedly caravan/MH specific route planers (Michelin seems particularly bad!). If you do have a registered TomTom Sat Nav/account you can transfer routes direct to the unit. Just remember to turn off auto re-routing which may trash your carefully chosen route, but that applies to any non-caravan/MH specific Sat Nav! Any doubts about a route, take a look on Google Street view at the places that concern you. I find (with the help of Street View) that sometimes it's better to approach a camp site from the opposite direction to avoid things like low overhanging trees or tight turns onto site etc.

https://mydrive.tomtom.com/en_gb/#+viewport=55.75623,-11.599,4,0,-0+ver=3

If you don't plan your routes carefully, you'd better practice your reversing and manoeuvring skills, as in all likelihood you will need them at some point!

I'm another who uses old-fashioned methods, like maps. I have been driving since the 1960s but only had a sat-nav in the past two years that I have had my current car. Now I only have the one fitted in the car, which is years out of date and cannot be updated beyond 2013.

I am not a complete dinosaur though and I find Google Earth invaluable. Until very recently I often drove Heritage buses like London Routemasters on wedding hires and the like. Wedding planners often pick venues in very out of the way places and don't think that the vehicle being used to ferry the guests is 14'6" high and 8' wide. Consequently some research is needed when planning the route. With Google Earth you can actually take a look at any bridges and trees etc in close-up. Old buses don't come equipped with sat-nav, nor is there anywhere to plug in a portable one.

For me sat-nav is a handy double-check, but I never plan an entire route using one.
