Curious as to HOW Tyrons limit your choice of TYRE.

Presumably because very few tyre stockists will deal with Tyrons, limiting your choice to whatever those that will happen to have in stock.

Spot on Colin, thought I'd explained that well enough! Whatever.

You see that's not how I read this;
"It's often difficult to find much choice in caravan tyres other than budget ones, but I want to have as wide a choice to find quality ones, and Tyrons tend to limit that!"

So maybe not as clear too everyone!

I’ve had tyron bands fitted on a few of my vans and never had an issue getting a tyre fitter to change the tyres.
It’s also worth noting that you get a discount on your insurance with tyron bands fitted, I think it’s about 5% so over the caravan life they more than pays for itself

Tyrone don’t limit your choice, they make no difference, perhaps poor tyre fitter/company might limit your choice

All because the line was removed from overall context and 'misquoted'! Gist of statement was Tyrons restrict your choice of tyre fitter with the consequence that then often restricts your choice of tyre! Tyrons in themselves have no impact whatsoever on what tyres you choose. Colin had no difficulty grasping the in context statement!

Of course you have a decent selection of good named tyres on the tinternet.
You can purchase the best brand, ask your local caravan dealer who they use when a customer asks for Tyrons to be fitted, and Bob's yer uncle.

It's all really simple!

This is obviously a local solution, which is what the majority of this thread is about.

It's not so simple if you are in a foreign country and you need to find someone that is equipped with the know how and the kit to change the tyre!

Or you could just put the spare wheel on until you get home ?

Do nut savers stop the tyre coming off the rim ? I’ve never heard of them

I've had tyrons in the past and always dropped on a tyre fitter who knew what they were doing, I've also had tyre pre-sealants which were good.
Nowadays I don't bother, however I make sure I carry a spare wheel for the caravan and a proper one for the car.

I've had punctures in the past and its a easy job changing a wheel for both the recovery driver, or if its safe myself

Where do you carry the van wheel? As on some, they are a cow to remove from the carrier at the kerb-side.

I had a blow out at about 60mph on the M^. I think the Tyron band helped protect the wheel and made getting to the hard shoulder a lot safer. After that experience I will always have Tyron bands fitted.
I have had new tyres fitted, ATS asked me to provide the allen key but no other problem, my caravan dealer has an Allen key so again no problem.
I've now got Tyron bands on my caravan and Tyrepal monitoring on my car and caravan.

-------------
We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

I carry my spare in the caravan over the axel and it goes under the caravan holding the step in place when on site.

The Al-KO carrier is in the shed and used for tying the onion strings to
