The very mention of the word frost is enough to put me right off coming out of hibernation. Starting to get the caravan ready will only come when there is virtually zero possibility of even the suggestion of frost. Any thought that the overnight temperature could drop much below 10 degrees will make me think "I'll give it another couple of weeks!"

The place where we get our caravan serviced say that if you want them to check for damp in a cupboard/locker/underseat/underbed area, then it must be empty. You are also not allowed to leave anything in the open that could get in their way, for example the aquaroll. It’s a bit of a pain having to empty it out but we try to view it as an annual clear out, and if we didn’t use something the previous year, it doesn’t go back in again after the service. It is amazing how much stuff we got rid of yesterday that was just taking up space (and adding unnecessary weight). I even did a clear out of the awning peg bag and threw away all the bent pegs. We have probably saved ourselves a few kgs with that alone!

Likewise, the service engineer insists on free access to all areas for equipment and damp checking, so pretty much everything out! I don't have a fixed bed to dump stuff on, even then a GOOD engineer should likely be checking the locker under it for damp!
I too take it as a positive thing and use it to assess what is really necessary to go back in, it's surprising how much 'stuff' creeps in over time, often only used once for a specific trip (mains water connector for one), so largely redundant, just occupying valuable space and adding to payload for no good reason!
As I can push my van to it's MPTLM quite easily (quite a low payload allowance), it's important to keep an eye on payload. Not sure too many peeps are very aware/vigilant on that, some friends horrify me with just how much they pile in their vans without it seems a care in the world, if it'll fit, it goes in, without further thought!
