My friend has bought a converted Subaru legacey with the 2.5l engine the gas tank is fitted in the spare wheel well in the boot so he has a space saver wheel in a bag in the boot.its a little bit down on power on gas but it still has 150bhp or so(179bhp on petrol) so no problems with towing the van.

   If you do a serch on googal about lpg you can find a list of all stockists throughout the country as my mate is going to devon for 10 nights with his van hes done his route and marked on it all the lpg suppliers on route hes traveling at night so he needs to find the 24 hour ones.

  The cost is somewhere about £1,000 so you need to be keeping the car for a while to get that back in fuel saving's

Hi Zed. The lpg tank was in the spare wheel place, and spare wheel in the boot with a cover, and as you know the galant is a big car with a big boot. It was a sedan (saloon).

Thanks for the info..  Though I would only call the Galant a medium car.  Though i suppose the boot would be large, mines a pretty big Hatch.  Plenty of room for carrying stuff.

The costings that I have seen have been around £2000.  You need to be doing a fair bit of mileage and keeping a vehicle for a good few years to make it cost effective I would imagine.

Like Dave, I converted my Jeep GC and experienced no drop in power and MPG is about the same - b****y rubbish!

A few points to consider though - the Jeep doesn't have much boot space anyway so go for the underslung tank. Its more expensive initially but you get a 70L gas tank (range about 180 miles) and a 30L petrol tank (range about 100 miles). bear in mind that you can run the gas tank to dry but you wouldn't do that with the petrol tank.

Depending on the year of the Jeep, you may need a 2nd ECU. Mine was a 97 and it did. Once the system had settled down, it ran perfectly on gas but hated running on petrol but that was no great shakes.

Mine cost £1500 fitted but didn't enhance the value of the vehicle at all, although I did trade it with a dealer and they really don't like the aftermarket add ons. I may have got more if I had sold privately.

I worked out my TCO and rate of return first and as I remember, it would pay for itself in 17,000 miles. As I did 30K a year in mine, it made sense to do that.

Just digging up an old thread from the past rather than starting a new one, has anyone got a zafira 1.8 converted to LPG, where do they put the fuel tank and how is the overall performance?
