We're interested in purchasing a 540 uk and would appreciate the German website you've mentioned to see if it's worth the journey. We've been quoted £13.300 today from Ambergate.

How did you get on I'm after a 540 uk (new of max 3 years old) and would like some advice on german dealers to try and cut out the middle man and and save a few pennies
We've put a deposit down on a Hobby 540 uk delux through JG Trading Company (www.hobbysales.co.uk). They are asking £12,975, with £500 off if no trade in. Our van is being built next February, but I know they have another one being built this month. They have been very helpful and friendly with us.
I've also heard of a company called JCH Caravans who can bring caravans over from Germany on your behalf.
I have spent ages looking into buying direct from Germany, I've have found the 2008 540 delux model between £9500 and £10000 also there is no import tax as you pay the VAT in Germany I looked at JCH and well, they've got to earn their money but felt their charges a bit OTT so feel next years holiday will be in Germany collecting a new caravan because we can have a new van and two weeks holiday for less than the UK rip off market!
If I can help anyone else in anyway, get in contact and I'm happy to share what sites and dealers I've found in Germany

please, can any one tell us the process of charging your battery in a hobby caravan.
Does it charge while you are driving, does it charge while on electric hookup, is there a charger in the caravan-does caravan have 13pin plug, does your car have 13 pin socket or are you using an adaptor from 12s/n?--it is possible there is no charger for EHU in caravan but the battery should charge from the car while driving--
I was all set to buy a 2008 540uk model and got a quote for £9900 including German logbook, manual in English and local tax(no vat to pay when you get back to UK) but then a 2007 model with air con and 12v came up on ebay so I got mine from there. The bloke I brought it off also brought it from the same place though. They are in Mönchengladbach so they are just inside Germany they come with a 5 year damp warranty and you don't need to go to Germany any Hobby dealer or someone they recommend can do any warranty work! I must say (not just coz I've got one). We looked at loads of vans and they were the best at a fraction of the price. you just have to tap on the van to hear how thick the walls are are the newer versions are much more luxurious. If there's anything you wanted to know just ask
