I'm looking forward to being looked at on the M5 - I have a theory that they are only looking because they know that if we all come to a stand still on the motorway - we at least have access to a toilet if necessary
Thinking about setting off on the saturday late afternoon as we are going to go to the national meet at derbyshire, anybody know if this is going to be a good or bad time to set off ,I believe it is a 5 and half hour drive from there so want to get to my destination around 10 pm maybe a little later, the only thing that is really worrying me is this is the first weekend of the start of the surfing champs comp,so will there more traffic on road in day
we have always gone through the night,so not really looking forward to the drive down there.

------------- Hey, 5 beers has just as many calories as a burger, screw dinner!
Thanks everyone for your helpful advise. I usually do all the driving but my partner can tow so i will probably let them do a bit too, they are not keen on towing they are better at the reversing bit. May she can reverse her bit of the way. We will leave mote like 1 am then and get past all the traffic. Its so long since i have been that way im really looking forward to the trip.
Will defo have several stops for leg stretching and coffee.
Thanks again
Kathy

Hi Paul and Wendy - I live near the Bradley Stoke Tesco and can thoroughly agree with you about avoiding the busy time.
We work on the basis of putting as many miles between us and Bristol when the road is as empty as possible. It can turn ito a car park for a large part of the morning starting very early. We usually have no idea where we are going to camp until we get into Cornwall - There are some good supermarkets with large car parks and cafes to stop in once you get there. Tesco's do a location guide of all their stores - pick one up at their petrol station. We've found it so useful.
When we went to cornwall last september we wanted a stop on the way around bristol we found a site about 1 mile from Slimbridge bird sanctuary and visited the place and made a full day of it - well worth it as our young son cant sit for hours on end in the car
Hey Netty thats funny we are going to the national and then on to cornwall as well we might tag along behind you you never know it could be a fun road trip lol
------------- I might grow old...But!
I'll never grow up!!!

Hi Kimmie, we are at Staple Hill, I guess you've been to Helston tesco's then, we spent a small fortune there last year lol.
I have noticed that in the spring/summer months that the M5 is still quite busy at night with everyone coming down for a holiday. I even got stuck in traffic at Avonmouth at 3 in the morning! Just what I wanted after coming back from Ireland!
I really don't think there is either a good time or a bad time to come down to the south west as everyone has the same idea. Just take plenty of breaks along the way. If you come off at junction 23 (A39) and head towards Glastonbuy for about 600 yards there is a very large layby that is set back from the road. This is a popular spot for truck drivers to stop through the week but is usually empty on a Friday night. It also has the added bonus of having one of the best snack bars in the country there! The "Frying Scotsman" does some lovely grub!
------------- I've heard it all. I've seen it all. I've done it all. I just don't remember any of it.
Hi Wendy and Paul - probably seen you wandering around good old Helston Tescos and not realised. Feel well at home there. Dont spend too much each visit as we have a visit every other day.
We spent many a happy two weeks in August at Trelowarren at the back of Culdrose until they closed. Campsite right in the middle of a 1000 acre park, really safe for the kids, and peaceful at night.
Ever had Spingo in the pub at the bottom of the main street in Helston - the Blue Anchor.
I just loved the fudge shop with all those jars of sweets at the top end.
Been there so many times we are almost local. Going again end June - kids are older and we can go out of season now.
In fact we don't feel we've had a holiday unless the year includes at least a week in Cornwall. My kids are fourth generation holiday makers there. Actually their not kids - ones 19 the others 15.
We spent 4rys worth of holidays at Menallack cheese farm up the road from Gweek in Treverva and then last year had 3 weeks at Gunwalloe and got caught out by the air day at Culdrose with their practising lol. We will be there in July for a week then on to Sidmouth for a UKCS week and also a few days in August for my sisters wedding in Newquay. We can't get enough of Cornwall in the summer but I wouldn't fancy a bleak winter down there.
Hi / Ya Kathy re; your trip to Cornwall,we live just pass the Tamar Bridge in Cornwall you might consider the route down on the A30 once you get to Exeter, that way you will by-pass the bridge and Dobwalls congestion giving you a less stressfull trip hpoe this of some help enjoy your stay.
