Hi there - thank you for your advice.  I have contacted them by email this morning - lets hope!

I think its the search for a cassette toilet thats really limiting my options - can a caravan without one be fitted with one, and is it a lot of money do you think?

Will keep hunting, thank you all!

Yes you can fit a cassette loo but I would try and find a van with one already fitted if I was you.  You should be able to find a decent second hand van for 2000 it may just take a little longer.  Did you defintly need a 4/5 berth as like we found on a limited budget it was easier to find a two berth at our limited budget.  My son is ten and when it is cold he sleeps next to me as our bed sleeps nearly four at the front.  In the summer he likes to sleep out in the awning with the dogs... but this may not be an option to you.

we bought our van a 1989 avondale leda pennine for £750 with just about everything thrown in and an awning (which when we put it up at easter looked like it had seen better days, so we chucked it). She's got everything we wanted, cassette toilet, oven, hob, hot and cold water, shower.  She does need abit of tlc but she's perfect for our family of 5.  The thing we did is not buy the first one we looked at, we took our time and our patience paid off.  I'm sure you'll get a great van for your budget

HI

We bought from Glossop Caravans.

We too wanted to spend about £1500 for a 5 berth. However after looking at countless private caravans (most with damp) we decided that buying from a dealer would offer a little more piece of mind as it came with a 3 month guarantee. Now 3 months doesnt sound much, but it is long enough to give it a full overhaul and ensure that the dreaded damp is not evident.

The caravan we fell for was a 1992 Abbey Piper 14.5 EX which was on their forecourt for £3,900. We offered £3,000 and asked them to throw an awning in which they were happy(ish) to do. We have just returned from 10 days in Sunny(not) Filey and think its brilliant. I now this is a little more than you wanted to spend, but if its any consolation - caravans appear to hold their value very well.

Good Luck with your search.

Hiya we bought one in August £1500 4 berth compass echo from Wigan Caravans which is in Ormskirk wigan. They did have a few cheap one's there tend to be cheaper than Cambells. Ours is great and in excellent condition for a 1989.

Good luck,

i got our latest from ebay. A Lovely couple in their late 30's with two children met them at their house and traveled a bout two miles to the storage site the van was as they had left it with no attempt to be made to tart it up . The deal was done at the agreed price and they even gave me £100 back (towards our first trip out) . Ok so i travelled 120 miles to see it but if thats what you have to do to get a good van at the right price!!   I think many people are worried about buying from ebay and ending up with a damp stolen wreck which is nothing like its online description. THIS IS NOT TRUE !!!!!! If as i found with the first van i bid on  you are the winning bidder agree to pay cash on collection and the caravan is not as described just walk the worst you can get is a mouthful of abuse and a negative remark on ebay!  just remember to take that damp meter with you (you only need to put the points into the paper not right through the van)
