 Corakid   Can I just ask, how long does it take to cook things in a Ramoska? And what do you usually cook? I`ve wondered about buying one but the way we do things I need to produce food in about 20mins or leave it cooking all day as in my slo-cooker.

 Hi caravanSkier it takes roughly 1 hour, i put a layer of sliced potato then

 carrot, swede mushrooms leek, place your chicken portions or lamb steaks

 or pork steaks or beef steaks then add about 6 fluid oz of whatever stock chicken

 lamb beef put the lid and sit back.

 you can make cakes /bread/puddings/pies you can use a ovenprof dish, but make sure you use a magic non stick liner so it does not scratch the teflon lineing,you can use foil to line the pan, you can use it to heat ready meals if you wish, you can cook a complete breakfast in it.

There are 2 sizes i have one of each, the Grand Remoska i use at home, and the standard one in the caravan, the Grand is 650 watts the standard is 450watts, theres no thermostats and the element is in the lid, there slogan is "whatever an oven can do -a Remoska can do better" the only place you can buy one from is Lakeland big one is £99 pounds little one is £79 pounds. just stick Remoska in the GOOGLE BOX and it will tell you all about them, they are hand made in CZECHOSLOVAK REPUBLIC.

When on EHU we used our Tefal mini-oven in the awning, now we have changed our van it has an oven but I think we will still use the mini-oven when on EHU saves on the gas. When not on EHU we will use the van oven.

We always use the cooker in the van.  When on EHU we also use a small mircowave.  Just open a roof vent and the window by the cooker and if you need extra movement of air open the top of the door.  You just cant beat the smell of bacon in the mornings.

No fry ups in our van, they are done on the Cadac which also does a mean roast and we use it either outside or in the awning in pooey weather.  Otherwise we use the hob and oven (we love our casseroles! and always have the roof vent and windows open

Thanks for all the replys,Never heard off a Remoska ,will have to look that one up,then again never heard of Lakeland either,don't think we have them over here.I will have to let my portable cooker go with the trailer tent when we finally get to sell it ,weather so bad at the moment sales on tents down .At least I am now more comfortable cooking inside after reading all the advice,was afraid of causing damp problems.Hope you guys had a nice long weekend  ours is next week.

I love cooking in my van!!!Im actually a school cook,so by the weekend im fed up with cooking But it is somehow different when we go away...strange

 Hi shamrock lady coming to your kneck of the woods on the 6th of June, we are having a week at Glen of Aherlow, then we are moving across to Adare for a week then 1 night at Camac valley Dublin ready for the ferry home.Lovely country Ireland we have been coming over for the last 14 years, the last 3 with the caravan, we like Cobh island it,s a good day out if the weather is fine, Cork is nice but a bit like Dublin now very busy.

We had a Jack Russell that started drooling the second she got a whiff of barbecue smoke.  She'd then wait for an opportunity to escape (door, window, rope ladder.. any means !!).  Once free, she'd track down the source of the smell and sit just on the outer edge of the family circle and look pathetic until some obliging soul tossed her a sausage or something.  Once she'd scoffed it, she'd then make her way to the next barbecue and do a repeat performance.  I was forever apologising about that darned dog.

We always cook in the van and use the oven. Our meals are the same in the van as they are at home - no make shift or convenience foods at all. Like everyone says, open the vents and top of the door and you will be OK. It's surprising too in winter how quickly the van warms up once you get a fried breakfast under way! You can't beat it!

I have an electric steamer therefore only small amount of steam escaping I also open a window. As electricity is paid for on sites I use that. I also have a small foreman grill for meat, no oven in mine, but I am on holiday so I don't produce the same standard of meals as I do at home.

We have a built in extractor/cooker hood in our caravan.  It comes as part of the fixtures and fittings and removes all cooking smells and steam.  The trouble is that we need to make sure that the vent doesn't face another pitch because it is so efficient that they would get all our cooking smells.

I can recommend a remoska- it heats up M & S ready meals really quickly! Its also really useful for doing thinks like roasties if there isn't room in the oven. Our oven didn't work for the last 2 holidays and we managed with just the remoska and hob.OH can do a mean corned beef hash in it!
