Maybe it's about time there was a 'detachable tow' that was produced along the lines of the 'alko'. The tow is removed, something put in place that locks into the, now blunt, A frame. A 'van can't be towed without a tow hook can it?!?
------------- My photos allow you to see what I saw at the time that I took it....No messing.
I'd just keep it well insured & as empty as possible while it's sitting in the field. Wheel clamp, hitchlock & a couple of leg locks wil deter them a bit but as long as its insured new for old I wouldn't let it worry you too much. There's plenty of vans out there to be bought & as long as you make 100% certain you've complied with your policy requirements I don't see what else you can do.
My van is three months old & is getting the same treatment as above. I did consider concreting a big THICK chain I have in the ground & locking it to the chassis but I wonder what the insurance company would say if the van chassis/floor/body was severely damaged in an attempt to steal it?? with this in mnd I chose to stick with satisfying caravan guards requirements & hoping it'll stay where it is.

Wanna bet?
Those scumbags who love to swipe our beloved tin tents go armed with humungous bl**dy chains and they will literally just oik the thing up to their wagon and be off with it. Whether it's a complete A frame with hook or not!
This is one reason why the police advise tin tents to be parked with the A frame against a wall whenever possible.
take care with this product,i have had two phones cancelled this year by one phone company and lost all monies too.they said not being used was the reason.there was money in calls, they were charged up,they were in my car for use in an emergency. when i told them this they did not want to know.but whats more they do not inform you the card is cancelled.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Like just about everyone else with a Phantom I am very impressed with it and the very quick response when triggered, can't recommend it enough. I know some people say they would not want their van back if its stolen but a) the reports I hear say that you get them back before they have had a chance to do anything to them and b) if everyone had the same view the number of total loss insurance claims would go up and so would our premiums, I beleive we should be helping the insurance companies to pay out less in any way we can.
An alternative is to do what I do with mine in the winter. I put the axle of the van on two big RSJs, I keep two old wheels & tyres here to have on the van to fit the wheel clamp in order that I satisfy the insurance. But these tyres could be left punctured. It wouldn't matter because the van is sat on blocks & they can't get the wheel clamps off anyway. I might do that this winter.
my caravan is stored on a secure site which has 12ft high fence topped with razor wire. there is Infra red CCTV covering every inch of the fence and the fence has a movement alarm. There are 24 hr Dog patrols and armed guards and it doesnt cost a thing. I occasionally have to go to iraq and afghanistan for the privilege though!
