Hi Jillala, just been reading your posting and read the bit about 'weathering' your  new awning. We got our first caravan 2 weeks ago and bought an awning today which we are not going to use till next year in case we can't get it dry before the winter. Not opened the box yet - do you get instructions on how to weather it with awning do you know? If not help please needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Barbaratomo,

I'm sure that lots of people will reply to your message but for the meantime, I will answer the best I can. I'm a novice myself really though!

All I am going to do to weather them is to put the awning up in the garden and saturate them with the hosepipe. Weathering apparently has something to do with tiny holes swelling once the canvas gets wet and sealing it.  We got quite wet in our harrison awning that we bought earlier in the year because we didnt know about this. We are hoping that if we soak it through before use, we wont have that problem if it rains this time!

If anyone has any better ideas, they would be gratefully recieved.

Barbaratomo, congratulations on your new caravan, by the way.

We have the pyramid Tuscany awning.  When we bought it, we were told that the mesh window panel could go at either end of the awning.  Not so.  It will only go on one end otherwise the zips seem the wrong lenth.  We mentioned this at the caravan shop next time we went back, and they said that they had been wrongly informed by Pyramid.  We then bought an annexe.  We tried it at the opposite end to the A frome (cause the mesh panel fits at the other end), and it all seems ok, but we haven't tried it the other way round.  We bought an inner tent at the same time, but it was too small, so took it back and got a bigger one (they gave us discount as it was the stores fault that we got the wrong one) but it's still not a pyramid one, so we had to be a bit inventive when it came to suspending it from the poles (spare guys came in very useful).

Eldest son is very happy with it - spacious.  He sleeps on a campbed in it - personal preference - he's not keen on airbeds although the double one would fit well.

Interesting comments from Snowy. Our mesh window side panel seemed that the zips were too long by about 4in. We had fitted it to the rear of the van end. We did not think that this was a major issue for us.

Without thinking about this, when we went away Aug B/H we fitted the annex for the first time, to the rear end of the van, as this is the end that suited us. We then fitted the mesh side panel to the front (A frame) end for the first time.  As I now think about it, reading Snowy's post, the 'too long zip' issue was not there anymore.

So, Jill, which end did you fit the annexe to? Did you try it both ends? Could the poster who has an annexe for both ends comment?

Oh cripes, now I am totally confused and perplexed.

I haven't tried it both ends but I want 2 anyway and that is why I have bought this awning. I have a harrison awning that I have only used 3 times that I can use with 1 annexe.

I got in touch with the guy yesterday and he has told me that he will contact pyramid and get back to me. Other annexe has not arrived but was scheduled for today. If this is a faulty batch or something, I am going to end up with 2!!

I will ring him this afternoon, if noone gets in touch. He did ask me about the colour of the zips, and was confused when I said that they were both grey.

Will let you know, the minute I get some news.

Thanks guys.

Re roll mats, camp beds, blow up mattresses - one of my kids was using a roll mat and the other a mattress. On our hols we acquired two camp beds. They say they are both much more comfortable and sleep better on the beds. The main downside is they are a bit fiddly to fit together. When packed down they are heavier than the others but take up no more room and fit in one of the lockers in the caravan easily.

My son said that one of the good things about sleeping on the campbed, was that he could store things underneath it, so he then had more room to manoevre.

Well thank you for all your replies, ideas and assistance.

I must say that I can fully recommend frontier leisure UK for customer service and satisfaction. The poor guy hasn't been able to sort me out with the original annexes unfortunately, but has arranged for me to recieve 2 universal annexes direct from pyramid (because he doesn't stock them.) I will recieve them on Thursday when I will get free collection of the other one.

At least the 2 companies worked together to reach a solution and did all they could to reach a satisfactory conclusion. I am happy to recommend pyramid for their products and service as well as Frontier Leisure, who could have not bothered and told me to stick it!

I will just need to get to grips with 2 universals now and weather the whole outfit!!!!
