Hi  I have just fitted a Sky/Tv  socket to the side of my new Caravan. Run a new coax from status areial to a connector next to front draw box. I fit my sky box under the front bed box, scart lead to my Tv. Eye & Link cable from Sky box to Tv, short coax from connector to my Tv (splitter).  This means i have only my Tv & Eye on the front draw box, and with Sky and standard areial connected to the Tv, I can get the local area weather or Sky weather when in France. Works well.

     hope this helps  Vini

Have used a similar system

Sky is wondeful.

My wife likes watching football

Have I mentioned that before???

In the fixed bed Oklahoma its a long way from the lounge area to the roof level Tv so we now have 2 TVs !!!(sad but true)

We have 15in LCD one on a clamp arm fixed to the worktop by the sink and over the end of the offside seat and one in the roof height Tv cupboard for watching in bed! .

This is much better for seeing the little men kicking each other and the ball.

The sound feeds  into the input to the fitted car radio and out through the speakers in the front/rear roof lockers --the result is amazing!!

The digi box is in the high level TV cupboard but can be controlled by the eye link as Vini has covered.

It would be possible for HRH to watch footy in bed while I watch terrestrial at the front of the van and via  seperate dish on long stays I could even watch a movie.

Before someone says get out and enjoy walks etc I must add that its not possible to do that with mobility problems.

Hi Sean I love the mod cons as you say but fixing them up gives a buzz----if they work

Some people call me Inspector Gadget

Don't understand why

My wife says Im a gadget freak - this has met with some critique from "proper" vanners who think connecting to a EHU is ruining the real feel of camping.. I say - "enjoy your radio" Im watching ITV2 and X Factor...!!!!

I have run some digital satellite cable from my amplifier to the Battery Box in my Swift Charisma.

Can anyone recommend a faceplate to terminate it on in the battery box?  There appeared to be a 25mm or so knock out in there which I assumed would have been for a external coax connector if there was one fitted.

As I am going to connect up to the piped TV on the site I assume should bypass the amplifier?

As I am new to caravanning, can anyone tell me how good these bi-directional roof top aerials are?

The mushroom type of roof aerial are OK if its a strong signal but nowhere near as good as a much cheaper directional aerial on a pole.

The directional ones on a pole through the roof  are much better than the mushroom type.

You do need to bypass the amp.

John's right - he forgot this one though  - this is the one I use for weak areas...

156

with the uni mast which fits nice on the back of my van..

112

Not a dear set up at all and picks up freeview in the right areas..

As for a terminator - any DIY store has the faceplates to wire into - makes a neat coax socket to run to the site hook up post. You can get a special external one which are quite nice - ive got this under the van -

External TV Socket

You wont need to use the amp - the amp is designed for each type of status aerial - ie. the ufo needs the ufo amp - whether this is a sales technique i dont know - but you wouldnt need to plug your satellite or external aerial into the amp box as it corrupts the signal.

I love the 530 kit but wont pay that for an aerial.. end of! plus i dont have the room in my cupboard for the pole set up as we have a microwave there! Be happy with your ufo and take a kit like the gadget freaks john and me have - dont spend it on a flash windieup thing.

And of course - you could get a cheap dish!!! but thats another thread/story.. good luck.
