We took the Ranger 540 away this weekend for the first time. Any towing nerves I had soon evaporated within the first 5 minutes. It proved to be very stable on both A and B roads. It couldn't have been more than 10 mins after pitching before we had people eagerly coming up to us to get our thoughts on the triple bunk (the bunk windows give the game away). I can honestly say our research paid off. This is a great caravan despite a few minor flaws.
I was hoping to be able to get 4 nights booked over the bank holiday period but only managed 2 as everywhere is booked solid from Whitby to Cleethorpes. As we got the caravan recently, it appears we underestimated the bank holiday rush. We'll not make that mistake again.
If anyone is looking to buy this model and has any questions, I'll do my best to help where I can.

Andy

Andy how do you find the space in the bunks? I have 3 kids aged 15,14 & 5. How do you think they would fare?

I'm thinking if getting this van I've read all your reviews I was concerned about the size of bunks but I've not read any neg.feedback. For those of you added a chest of drawers at the front of the van - what size is the bed at the front is it still a double or smaller? I assume your all putting your TV at the front of the van? I havn't actually seen one in the flesh yet.

Thanks

Barbara, this post is about last year's model 540/6 (the Series 5).  At the end of last year Bailey introduced the Ranger Series 6 and the Ranger Series 6 GT60 with a higher spec.

On the Series 6 models they have moved the door to the rear rather than just behind the front settees and various other cosmetic spec changes.

The rear bunks are the same as in the Pageant triple bunk and are 3 x 6'0" x 1'11".

We have slept an adult on the bottom bunk and also on the side dinette made up to a single as well.

Re the front bed, as it is only 5'5" wide without the optional chest in place, it will be around 4' wide if you have the optional chest in place.

The TV point is on a pull down shelf next to the wardrobe so you do not need the chest as a place to put the TV.

If you have any other queries, just ask.

We have had our Series 5 Ranger 540/6 for over a year now and are still loving it. The kids are all a little bigger now (18,14,12,7) and still think the bunks are ok for size. I am sure they would prefer a little more room but they sleep ok and are just as difficult to wake up in the morning as at home on the weekend.

If we are all away the tv goes on the front table so everyone can see it. If we just take the 2 youngest then the tv goes on the side drop down table.

I fitted an external tv socket and use an external directional aerial to give me the flexibility of tv positions.

I prefer the upholstry of the new Series 6 layout but was dissappointed to see they have removed the spotlights around the Heki and moved the entrance to the back. This has left the kitchen too close to the front seats and there is now a worktop protrusion making reclining uncomfortable. All in all though I think most of the changes are for the better.

We will be staying with our current model for the next few years though as it suits our needs.

As nightoff we have had our 540/6 for a year and still loving it. We are not impressed with the GT model as preffer the door at the front. We can honestly say we are converted to caravaning and loving every min.17
