I am a member of both clubs, You can carry any unused deposits on if you cannot attend in the C&CC, I use these sites more but am gonna make an effort to use more CC sites as thats why I pay the fee!! My favourite site is the C&CC one at Keswick.

Sorry to hijack the thread, just wanted to ask Blondieandi about the Keswick site, we're looking to book there for September and wondered if there's any specific pitch you recommend or are you just allocated one? We were up in the lakes for our honeymoon last year and had a look around it and wondered if they all have lake views or do the ones at the back have their views blocked??

Yeah when you book on the website it says special requests or something and a box to put the request in., we put in once 'lake view please' and got one although you cant have an awning on these pitches( The hardstanding ones). I would ask for one near the lake if you want an awning you maybe wont get one but you can only try. The site is really well located, great for a few drinks in Keswick and a meal in one of the many pubs.Part of the lakeside is on the site so you dont miss out on it anyway. There are discount vouchers from reception for boat trips on the lake as well. I love going there any time of the year. If you get a pitch at all its good as its generally booked up a lot. Book now and request it!!

Thank you all for your advice as always very helpful, i think we have decided on the CCC, we are not quite 55 and have a few years yet ! and i  still have 2 teenage kids who love our wee old van which is known as the TARDIS.

How can people keep keep bringing up incidents 10-20 years ago and stating......"the CC is snobbish"!!!!!!!!.........beyond belief!!

Any organisation changes all the time let alone in 20 odd years!!

There is a similar thread running about the CC being snobbish and I must say that people have remarked to me that it is a bit snooty. I also think that the c&cc's motto "The Friendly Club" is a jibe at the Caravan Club.

A bit more recent for you ClaireL:

5 years ago I drove into a CC site (was actually looking for a C & C C CS up the road) in my 14 year old Autosleeper motorhome. I was approached by some very stuffy people who asked what I was doing there. They appeared extremely relieved that I wasn't stopping there.

Well at least your experiences are a little more recent, but if you look into any nationwide club then there will be a mixture of good, bad and nasty people!.

We have always been made to feel welcome at CC sites, people are usually friendly but not pushy and show a genuine interest in our camper, in fact we have done several guided tours for people!, at the least most people will say good morning to you and I pitched the camper by myself in oct and had two people come over and offer to help. We stay at CC sites because they are clean, tidy and have top quality toilet facilities.

The C&CC site we stayed on had old, dirtier facilities and not one person spoke to us all weekend.

We've stayed at Bunree for the last two years and there has been the same little orange and white van there and no-one has given it a second glance and it must be well over 30yrs old.

At the end of the day people usually prefer one club or the other and won't be swayed in their opinions and if we all loved the same sites it would be dammed overcrowded!!!..........I just think its unfair to bring out experiences of over 20yrs ago to slate anything!!

Leaving aside the 'snobs versus yobs' debate (which has been a running theme of the CC  v CCC debate  for as long as I can remember), I've found the main differences between them to be:

The CC has by far the better (and more numerous) CL's (five van sites), often in very nice areas, and fairly reasonably priced.

The CCC, on the other hand, is much better for weekend rallies and temporary holiday sites  - both of which often include a social element (that's code for bingo & boozing ;) which we quite enjoy.

The CCC also tend to be less fussy than the CC about such vitally important matters as lining up your jockey wheel within a maximum of 3mm from the peg.....although, having said that, there are one or two CCC stewards who could give the most fastidious CC marshal a run for his money.

On the debit side - I've noticed a small (but seemingly growing) deterioration in the way children are allowed to behave at some CCC meets.  Ball games near, and cycling around, caravans used to be a definite no-no, but now appear to be on the increase without censure from some rally stewards.

While no-one wants to spoil anyone's fun, I don't fancy a dent in the caravan from bike handlebars either.  The CC tends to have a slightly older (and perhaps more crusty) clientele, and are less likely to allow these things to happen without intervention.

It's a tricky balance - but, on the whole, I prefer the CCC, as long as the maintain the common sense order that has always applied until recently (and, to be fair, still is maintained on the majority of weekend meets)

I am an old crusty and I agree about the rule culture of the CC, as for cycling kids we avoid them if we can because if you go over them their bikes could scratch the car.

I am another old crusty and can't see where people get the impression of rule culture with the CC I have never seen it ( Though I have on the CCC sites ) in fact I find the CC sites totally relaxing with no pressures in any way from wardens or other caravanners. On all sites that I have been on the behaviour of the kids that have been there has been exemplary, they have just got on with enjoying themselves and have always been most polite when anyone speaks to them about anything at all. I like to see kids on there bikes on the sites, if you ever study what the kids are doing it is a great entertainment.

I am a member of both, I find it easier to book a pitch on any of the C&CC sites as you have to pay a deposit,
with the CC (as no deposit is required) all of the most popular sites are fully booked up for every weekend and Bank holidays by 2nd week in January.

For those travelling with children, we found the CCC sites we used last year to be miles ahead of the CC sites.  Maybe it was just down to the staff, but the CCC sites seemed to be less awkward in their dealings with the public, while our stays with the CC are best forgotten.

When it comes to site facilities the C&CC although fairly good cannot compete with C.C toilets and showers and there so called hardstandings often have grass growing through them , i am a member of both clubs and after being a member of the C&CC for 7 years and untill a year ago had never used one of there sites in the Uk decided to try them for a season instead of the usual C.C sites . To be honest i do not like being told what pitch to have and the shower blocks although clean are always dated .I do not envisage renewing my membership next year but each to there own
