Hi Tracie

I don't know if our order acknowledgement was the same as yours and I've burnt all our literature from them so I can't comment but they didn't argue with me.  If I were you, I would try ringing Trading Standards.  I rang them and they were very helpful.  They will be able to tell  you if this is legal or not.   When we went to pick up our van, I realised they were showing pictures of a different van in the advert and I mentioned Trading Standards; perhaps that helped to get our money back.

I am not a vindictive person, but if I could, I would put this company out of business.

I hope you get some joy.  Keep making a nuisance of yourself and tell every member of staff you speak to just what they have done to you and what you think of them.

Margaret

well i bought my second hand van in may from glossop caravans, apart from not wanting to wash the mold of the roof i have had no problems, the new mattress arrived as promised and a new bed guard rail a week later ( i didn't know it was missing) the awning i recieved was one that had been returned by another customer but this was rectified with no hassle. I would definatley use this company again although i would stay well clear of bargain corner ( the very name is enough to put any sain person off)

Don't get me wrong i'm not defending them! We live down the road and i only use their shop if i can't get anywhere else. Even in the shop they are miserable and very unwlecoming. We did seriously look at a van with them before we bought our Adria and the condition of it was disgusting (it wasn't in the bargain basement either!) and they wanted alot of money for it too. We did buy our awning from them though.

Just want to say this thread has served its purpose and lost them a potential customer, both myself and my parents have been planning to have a drive up there for a look, we've only just had a new van but they're currently shopping for a fixed bed model and I'm sure after hearing all this we'll all stay well away!

I for one am very glad we haven't got into any kind of deal with them!

Thanks 17

Sadly they are not the only caravan dealers that lie and cheat their customers! Good job we have this site to shed some light on the bad ones!!

Hi all 'Glossoped' caravanners.

We are in a similar situation at the moment with Glossop caravans and are seeking

to recover our costs from them for work undertaken at an Elddis approved dealer which should have been done at time of purchase.

Has anyone had any joy getting there money back as we have written direct to the MD Brian Laing and as with everyone else no reply yet.

We are considering legal action can anyone help who has been successful in getting there costs reimbursed.

Lyn Lowe

We did manage to get our money back from this shower of cowboys but this was for a dodgy caravan they sold us, so your situation is, perhaps, a bit different.

However, if it's of any use, this is what I did - I e-mailed Ralph Thurman.  I got the e-mail addresses of anyone connected to him, salesmen, office staff, the manager of the after care team, and copied them into my insulting e-mails so that he knew that his staff were aware of a customer's opinion of him. I left messages with his secretary and asked her to repeat them word for word, (she is actually very nice) asking her to tell him exactly what I thought of him and his company and tried hard to make an absolute nuisance of myself so that he would want to get rid of me.

Also, try ringing Trading Standards; they must be so sick of hearing about this company, they must do something soon, but make sure you tell Glossop Caravans you are contacting Trading Standards.  When I mentioned Trading Standards to the salesman who sold us our rotten caravan, he said to me husband, 'do you think she really will'?  It seems this is the only thing which really bothers them.

If all else fails, take out a summons in Small Claims Court - it doesn't cost much - and face up to these people.

Incidentally, I was speaking to a caravan dealer local to where I live who knows Glossop Caravans well within the trade, and he told me that he had been to a conference where Glossop Caravans was represented by the son of the owner and that he was ridiculing the public he had made silly amounts of money from.  He treated it all like a big joke.

By the way, has anyone seen the flash advert they now have on T.V.?  Who is paying for that?

Margaret

In a large company like Glossop who sell well over 3000 touring caravans a year you can not please everyone, some people are beyond any kind of help.

As for taking a Cra*p in the toilet of a van on there site, this just shows what type of idiot you are.

no respect scum of the earth.

You get what you pay for in life if i paid 2000 for a van i would expect it to have damp in somewhere.

Unfortunatley you dont hear about all there totally happy customers who keep buying year after year. yes  i agree if you have had bad service you should shout about it, But doing that to somebody else property come on you dont deserve to be a memeber

Hear,hear,

I've had had nothing but GOOD service from them, both when buying and afterwards for servicing and repairs, including a new rear panel on an Avondale - which was done in 5 working days from taking the 'van in to collection.

Thank you Glossop, there are people that appreciate you!

that goes for us too - with one hiccup over a cupboard door that should have been replaced when we picked the van up  we have had nothing but superb service from them
