I used to do that too (dish) but you don't get much flexibility if the signal is poor or non-existant because of trees etc. so I bought a tripod and plenty cable for tree infested pitches.  Much better but it's something else to carry.

We used to have a whirlie washing line that replaced the jockey wheel used it for years in all weathers never had any problems, sold it with last van now have one that clamps onto the jockey wheel. New one is an improvement because it sits higher so does not resrict use of front box, but yes anything bigger than a teatowel does tend to flap against the van.
