Could I add to this interesting thread and ask:

Which will also cover you when abroad?

Cheers

As far as I know none.

I like the Mayday breakdown cover, although I also liked the RAC.  Moved to Mayday when the RAC became too expensive.  We have always been 'heavy users' of the breakdown services, and I think the RAC have a limit on the number of times you can call them out.  As far as I am aware the Mayday have no such limit.  (I will stand to be corrected by anyone who knows better).

Same thing happened to us but we were stranded 200 miles away. They took usto our campsite but we were then stranded for a week. Had to extend our stay and couldn't get our car fixed. A relative brought us and our caravan home and we collected our car after a new engine had to be fitted. The that they would only take us so far then we would be charged per mile for the car and the van. After paying out a full yearscover we were pretty broke with the repairs. My oh car fan belt went 2 weeks later,so we thought lets use th AA we've payed for it, despite actually having a spare fan belt, he refused to fit. Have been told this is very common with them. We will not be renewing with them next year but have found the posts very useful, many thanks.  (I had pointed out breakdown cover with our insurance but he told me not to be silly, what do i know?!)

Cam belt went on Sierra whilst on holiday in Cornwall a few years ago,AA sent out a huge truck, said only needed a cambelt and asked if he could get one.In fairness he did and then watched while i change it on the main road with very basic tools.

Another time when the '55 broke down the recovery drivered measured it and said it was too long..............so he lied about the length, loaded me on the truck and took us home.

Same as most walks of life, some are helpful, others arn't
