Particularly as the conversion grants have finished and the government have announced plans to increase duty on lpg to "bring it in line with the emmisions targets"

You may say "hello" but the majority of people do not realise the difference in the cost of producing diesel against pertrol, obviously you do but some here dont so posting comments like that dont help the debate !

I'm sure the diesel arguement when they increased the duty was that the particulates were particularly damaging polution wise and nothing to do with the 'greenhouse' side of things which wasn't invented at thye time..

the recent reductions are purely supply and demand related.

Of course Bio diesel eradicates much of the particulates so really should get massive tax breaks.

LPG is a funny one - it is 'cleaner' than petrol, but only just, with the best results in the NOx readings. Diesel is horrendously bad in Hydrocarbons readings.

As for payback of LPG, one of the factors is obviously milage but also you need to factor in the mpg of the car - the payback period of a car that does 20mpg will be half that in a car that does 40mpg.

My Lexus LS430 does about 15mpg around town and about 30ish on a run and I do about 12,000 miles a year.
Taking an mpg figure of 20 average on unleaded and 16 average on lpg then my savings are £1200 a year. I currently save £20 on car tax and a further £80 on insurance. So payback for me is 1.5 years and thats ignoring the fact that the car will be worth £700-£1000 more when I sell it.

Its a no brainer for me.

The supermarket pump price of diesel in France has gone from around 0.94€/litre to around 1.01€/litre in just a few wks, so the rise in the actual fuel price is similar to UK although the tax is lower.

So its not just ripoff Britain its ripoff Europe, it seems.

eeee, I remember the days when I was a lad, there were only 2 filling stations selling diesel round us, one sold paraffin too!!!

thats only 20 years ago!

When I filled up at Asda last Thursday both diesel and unleaded where 99.9p per litre. I've yet to see any petrol stations around here charging more for unleaded than diesel but I'll keep my eyes peeled.

sunday we went past asda and it was 99.9 for unleaded.said get it on the way back.three hours later it had gone to 103.9.so for 37 ltrs cost me £1.48 more.

Our Tesco garage was closed last week for refurbishment. I said to hubby bet the price goes up when it re-opens. Was i right?, of course. Another penny added, now 103.9 for diesel. Still better than last summer when the highest it went was 134.9, which happened to be when we filled up to go to France!! Cost a fortune!

After 2 and a bit months of ownership I have just done my first motorway only run.

228 miles on 38 litres of gas at 43p per litre.
Based on petrol being 101.9 that equates to just under 65mpg

not bad for a 4.3L V8 barge.

Why dont some of you that are local to each other buy a bio-processor between you? A decent one that'll process 200L in 24 hours costs approx £400, even with chemical costs the average cost of processed bio is £0.28p Ltr. Before I get the 'most cars wont run on it and it ruins engines' etc, They will and it doesn't, most people that comment have not used or do not know anyone that does use Bio but go on rumours. Bio-processors are now quick and efficient and £0.28p is worth setting up for.
