It's been a little while since this has come up, so I thought, I need to have a bit of revision!  I contributed to this post ages ago, but still didn't get around to buying one.  What size poles do folk generally use?  They come in 3m,5m,6m,7m,8m,9m,10m from skyblue:

I'm thinking 5 or 6m?  Are the bigger ones more likely to break/bend in the wind?  How do you attach the lags to them?

David, I have (I think) two 8 metre poles from Sky Blue which I use for shows, the flags for them I had made separately which came with a sleeve to fit the pole into - unfortunately the sleeve was a bit on the large size so was made smaller by running a line of stitching down through it.

The flag doesn't fly at the tip of the pole as the pole is too thin there - it actually flies about one and a half sections down from the tip (this obviously depends on the size of the flags - mine are 5 x 3 ones) worth bearing in mind when you choose your length.


One word of warning the poles are only thin sections I pushed a wheel over one and cracked it badly (wheel was about 30 kgs) but otherwise they are ok and I would buy again from Sky Blue

i have two 6m and a 7m poles, i wouldnt go for less than 5m, we have a large dragon we fly if we can but cant if the wind to strong as it pulls very hard on the pole, but i wont leave it over night as its noisy, normally i have a flag and a small dragon on the pole and if im feeling adventurus ill put a 2nd pole up with my other flag on,

if anyone wants and england flag tescos are doing them for £1.50

You can use button bungees or a pole sleeve to attach flags to the pole.
