17 I don't know if i should say incase anyone on here was bidding on it and then they'll hate me. All fair in love and caravan wars! Its an Abbey Spectrum 5 berth, double at the back with bunk above. He accepted an offer of £1700. I've seen 92 vans go for a lot more money on there so i'm happy with that price. It doesn't have an awning though which i will defo have to get as there won't be enough room for my 13yrold. That will be my next quest17. I think the caravan is about 23ft including the A frame as he states internally its 20ft so I think i will need a 950-975 size?

Did anyone see that 91 Abbey spectrum 5 berth up for sale on there? He's got a "buy it now" of £3200 171717. It did look real nice inside and we were interested cuz at first he said it was a 99 model and then was told it could be older, then he puts it down as a 91. Doesn't add up though cuz he reckons he got offered £3700 by a dealer...surely a dealer would have known the yr of the van! Ebayers try it on mind don't they!

£1700 from  £3200 ?????? I'd be wondering about the huge drop in price myself. Beware if things might not seem to add up theres usually a reason. Sorry to be a bore but thats how it goes for me anyway. Just keep a good clear head & inspect it carefully. I hope its the van you been waiting for & you have many happy holidays in it.

oooh reminds me i need to take pictures of mine while we're away in it next week so I can advertise it as we're looking to get a bigger one, so anyone wanting a very lightweight 5 berth elddis firestorm.... it'll soon be going up for sale. 17 keep watching the "for sale" adverts on here.

Oops!  Did i word my post wrong? The one on ebay with a "buy it now" for £3200 is a different caravan to the one i'm picking up. I wouldn't have touched his with a barge poll, even if it was going cheap, he changes his story too much so it makes me wonder if there is anything wrong with it.

Well he aint gonna get £2500 for it now cuz that was us that offered him that 17. That was only because we thought it was a 6 berth, dopey here thought she could see something for a bunk to rest on, and then realised it was a bit of wood for the table. The idiot didn't even get back to me when i offered him that! He replied back with the total length but chose to ignore the other half of my email.

Well Lin i may be in the same boat as you still, cuz my one might be a load of rubbish yet! What sites are you lookiing at to find something? I've been on Trade-it, preloved, caravan finder, c4 caravans, caravan selecta, freeads.co.uk, gumtree and of course fleabay lol. Keep looking as ebay seem to have an influx of caravans. Heres a lil tip to find more vans on there....when you tap in "caravan" on the search bar you only seem to get about 800ish caravans appear, if you then delete "caravan" but keep the caravans etc category up and press enter again you will get over 1200 vans appear. I always click on "newly listed" too on the right hand side drop down bar, i then put an offer in before too many people see the van.

I must admit i am already being a bit suspicious of my new van as he states its a 92 model and some 90 models ive found look identical inside. It might just be me being paranoid cuz i had an 86 swift challenger in Jan and they too had the same upholstery and layout as later 80's models.

Good luck, i'll keep an eye on this thread to see how you get on, and the rest of you looking17

Wow!  I'm gobsmacked at how hard you're all finding it to get a decent van!

We have a 1999 Elddis Firestorm (5 berth) in good nick (as far as I'm aware - not actually been round with a damp meter since we bought it in Feb).  We've been offered £3000 in part ex for a brand new van.  We paid way more than that for it.

Maybe we should try to sell privately 1st - if we can get a bit more it'd be more towards the new van!  I'm just a bit nervous of being messed around with a private sale.

Getting a van for 5k plus is relatively easy, its the FTB market thats been hammered this year leaving even dealers struggling to provide lower priced vans, people are buying without p/x as the credit cruch bites, sales are up 40% this year leaving us looking for 'cheaper' vans struggling to find the right van as the ones out there are either sold, faulty or overpriced

Think I'll speak to OH tonight re giving a private sale a shot.  We can buy a damp meter to make sure there are no issues then get it advertised.  It's a lovely van - doesn't look 10 yrs old by any means.  That's why we were prepared to pay a bit over the odds for it - it's more modern looking inside (upholstry etc...) than others we saw & it's given us a great start.  It would be nice to sell privately & actually meet the people who buy it rather than hand it to a dealer & not know where it'll end up (sentimental I know but it's our 1st van & we've had a brilliant time in it).

Yay! 1717 Thats brill news, i bet your really excited about going to see it! I know i can't wait to see mine 17. He rang tonight to say the caravan will be ready tomorrow afternoon. I've already been looking for an awning for it and booked a few nights away on a cs in Wales. I've nipped out today and bought a small tent for my teenager until we can get an awning. What year is your van then and how much did you get it for?

Cor that was a bargain! Dorema awnings are very good, we had one with our hobby. We were away in some pretty windy weather in May and it stood up to it well.

My van doesn't come with any extras so mines not such a bargain but it's ok cuz we kept all our gear when we sold the hobby. At least it's a twin axle too which hubby insists on.....he's so fussy about what he wants from van....drove me nuts so praying this one is ok. He's going to try and finish work about 4 and nip to Wales to pick it up, failing that he'll go on his own at 8 cuz he has drawings for a job to pick up at 7.30.

Have you been scouring the campsite search for somewhere to go then? I booked a cs cuz i knew at this time of year i'll have a hard job finding a bigger site. The one we're going to is near Hereford, it has loo's, showers and a park for the kids and theymake their own icecreams which the kids are looking forward too. We're off on Sat morning, we might stay 2 nights not sure yet.

17 look at us booking up a site already! you'll be miles away from home so i don't blame you, how did you manage to get a pitch at such short notice, is it a cs too? I would have gone out in mine straight away too but hubby has work commitments. Never mind i can spend the week trying everything out and of course packing it. Might even hide in there from the kids too.17
